As the illistrations clearly show:
Drawing 1:
All vehicles stationary at the traffic lights.
Drawing 2:
The lights have changed and car number 1 has set off, car number 2 however, was daydreaming and didn't.
Drawing 3:
The bus driver has decided to go through the gap that was virtualy not there.
Drawing 4:
The bus is now perilously close to impact on the kerb coming up and comes across into my side of the road. No indicators to show this is what his intentions were at this time.
Drawing 5:
I had come to a stop at this point, so had the witness, but the bus driver continuted on his way as he felt he had bullied me into giving him way.
Unfortunatly, the handle of the bus' emergency exit caught the near side wing mirror and ripped it off, resulting in the emergency door coming open.
I eventually pulled in front of him some 100 yards further down the road where it was safe to stop and remonstrated with the driver. Eventually he said he was going to the garage and that he would meet me there to give me his details after he had taken my name down and the registration of the van.
I did not have a pen with me at the time otherwise I would have jotted down my details on the accident form carried in the van for just such instances.
so thats what i did yesterday

only way we manage to get at the sheer bolts is smash the plastic surround off which is part of the mirror.i even think the bolts have loctite on them too.

it is diy`able but just not easy if you are a numpty, which i dont think a lot on here are, only way i know of getting these shear bolts off is drill em and use stud extractors (like i told the ford "technician" to do after restyling my trim)
good luck mate though are you not going through the bus company insurance? i know they will be slow to sort................

the bus companies didn't need to have an inasurance company when i worked for them so i knew the tricks of the trade back in the day
it may be different now though but basicly they put up a bond of half a mill if they are a titchy company or upwards of 4 mill if they are massive to cover and damage they may cause to other people or property
this then makes them their own insurance company so they fight like fuck to pay out because it has to come out through their pockets
when i was driving a bus (mainly through southall i will say and my career lasted close to 6 years) i was involved in 38 accidents and only one was my fault and was paid out for as i put my hands up to say "i was at fault" (wrong side of the road and wrote of this poor old boys 106 that he'd owned for all of 2 minutes )
but now it's in the hands of our insurance company to sort out, but in the mean time the wing mirror needs sorting so if i can do it myself then fine and dandy but if it's going to need professional fitting then perhaps not and it'll go to the bodyshop around the corner to get fitted
the vans out on the road at the moment so i can't get a look at the part numbers either but from what i found out when i was ringing around, the mk7's won't fit the mk6's but the glass is interchangable from around 2000 onwards as that's what's fitted to it at the moment
when i've got the complete assembly in front of me i'll be able to work out what's what and how to swap it over, but i'll make sure i put in normal bolts in case it happens again
on the connects it's easy as all you do is pop the door panel off and unscrew 3 bolts and a plug, why can't all things be this simple?
i reckon it's a trick from ford as so many vans have their mirrors smashed it's unreal, the vitos were £44 for the complete mirror and 3 bolts, 2 minutes and job done

i looked at him in disbelief thinking that they should have changed them for free
i had all the bulbs in the van, all i needed was a philips screwdriver and 10 minutes and job done
but i didn't spot them peeking through the shutters as i did it in the car park
