Security contacted Scott and Dave late on Saturday night and said that a group of lads who had camped round the other side of Croft circuit (near the Chicane and Tower straight) had started a fire and could they go round and sort it out.

Scott then went off with Dave, Barry and a few others to see what was up. There was a group of Local (i.e. from the North East) lads who had started a fire, we have in previous years had similar problems with the same bunch of people as both Scott and Dave recognised them. They were asked to extinguish the fire which I'm told they did under a bit of protest, however, that seemed to be the end of it. We were then woken up very early on Sunday morning by a phone call from Dave saying that the police were here as a car had been damaged.

Two cars had been seen in the main car camp site situated next to the local group stands. As the cars drove away one had hit a parked car which as you all know is the car which belongs to a Derby group member. The cars drove off the one being involved in the accident left the site.

The lads who had started the fire had 3 cars with them, one was a black 3dr, another was a MkII and the third was a silver car. The witnesses managed to get part of the registration numbers of the two cars which came up to the site.

When the lads who had started the fire were visited again, there were only 2 cars there and one of the cars registration numbers matched the one given by the witness. So it can be safely concluded that they were involved.

I really hope that someone comes forward and identifies both the car and the driver so that this matter can be sorted out properly.

In the last 6 years that we have used Croft circuit for our show we have never had an incident like this happen. Why people think that it is OK to do things like this is beyond me. What happens to people when they are drunk that they actually think it's acceptable to go and drive their cars around a packed camp site at around 5am while people are sleeping??

I was told that the lads who had came up to the camp site were visiting some people from the West Scotland Group. I was also told that the West Scotland group had provided the part number plate descriptions to the police. Good job someone from their group was still up at that time in the morning otherwise we wouldn't have that information.

If we can still hold the show next year at Croft following this incident then unfortunately we will just have to get tougher on camping rules etc and possibly only let pre-paid, pre-booked people on local group and track entrants camp. Drunken arguements you can kind of expect with such a large group of people, but behaviour like this is totally and absolutely unacceptable.
the 3 guys in the black 3 door defo know the guys in the silver audi a3 , they were @ the west of scotland club stand for about an hour , i went to bed early but could get any sleep for the noise , went out the tent at about 3.15 , asked everyone to keep it down , noticed only 2 of our guys still up but about 7 or 8 strangers , went out again @ 4.00 , told the guys it was all over , everyone had had a good night but if they wanted to party on then take it somewhere else as we wanted to get the head down , our guys were only still up at this time as the boys in the 3 door were showing an unhealthy intrest in one of our guys escort cosworths , trying to do a swap for the 3 door @ 3.30 am ???????? i stood for 10 mins until the guys actualy left , there were 4 guys in the silver a3 , wheel spun away like a dick and slid across the grass , clipping the back of the guys a4 , there were 3 guys in the black 3 door who left just behind them
the full reg for the 3 door and the partial reg for the audi were passed on by boys from our stand , and just to confirm we did not know them at all
if anyone knows anything they should be teling , this came close to a very serious accident
if you had seen it , if the silver audi was 6 ft further left , then it was straight over the tent the folks were sleeping in , guy could not have swerved as car was out of control
so anyone who knows should speak up !!!!!

Thank you for this information, I'm utterly shocked by what you have posted. Having read that they were so close to the tent with people in it just turns my stomach.

I heard a number of cars being started during the night and idiots reving them like they were going to launch them. An incident like this goes to show how easy it is for things to go wrong. I usually camp in a tent with Scott and Kai and it makes me realise just how vulnerable you are

as claire said to me yesterday tho...if you try to throw out someone who has been drinking then you are kinda responsible for making them DD on the road. That is assuming that only pissed up folk start their cars up which i think is fair enough

Agreed, not easy dealing with drunken twats.

Why people cant just have a few beers and enjoy themselves is beyond me, no one there was 14 as far as im aware, so everyone should know how to handle a few pints

Organisers are facing an uphill battle with alcohol in general, must say I was VERY pleased to see them breath testing all drivers

It would also cause massive problems for getting everyone into the show on both days. Traffic outside the circuit would be a problem.

These lads weren't with a 'group' they were camping around the other side of the circuit and only ventured to the official camping site during the middle of the night.

Had this been an incident that had involved members from a local group I'm sure that the decent people within that group would come forward with names of the people involved.

If we are still allowed to hire the venue again next year then camping will need to be looked at and given greater priority. Anyone wishing to camp should have to buy prepaid tickets and need to provide details of those who will be camping with them. I agree with Dave that perhaps we should look at only allowing RS members to camp and Track entrants (as long as they provide the details of people accompanying them).

Lets remember though that this has been the only serious incident in the last 6 years. As the show has grown we haven't wanted be stricter and we have tried to keep the show as relaxed as possible but following this we will have to look at the issues that have come out of the weekend and evaluate how we can make things safer next year. Not everyone will like what we may have to do but the Publics safety is paramount. Certain behaviour has been tolerated to a certain degree but that needs to change, if people can't behave or refuse to behave then they will be removed from the event and banned from all future events that will be held.

Shame isn't it that the actions of a few can spoil the enjoyment of so many

This matter will not be dropped by us! One of our members knows on of the guys involved and we will get a name from him guaranteed!!

People don't realise that we sign legal contracts from us (Durham & Derby rsoc's) as representatives of the national RSOC which includes insurance etc etc. If these guys had mowed down a tent with people in it then that would be the end of the RSOC for good!!!!!!!! I know a lot of people on here wouldn't give a fuck about that but remember; a lot of the shows you attend, including ours are backed and covered by the RSOC and without them they would possibly not go ahead.

I CANNOT EXPRESS MY DISGUST AT SOME PEOPLES ACTIONS ON A CAMPSITE WITH REGARDS TO ALCOHOL AND CARS. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN AT OUR EVENT, GUARANTEED!!!!

This is a genuine question to Dingy,,, how will it cost the club mate?? surely the audi (which didnt look too badly damaged) has insurance and its just the same as any hit and run??

Still totally a shame for the audi driver and really out of order behaviour by whoever did it.

it will be near impossible to get whoever did it as his mates will be protecting him.

All the very best to anyone affected by this anyways.

I think it's fair to say most people talk bollocks when drunk. Two people drunk trying to have an intellectual conservation is actually quite comical I find. Providing there causing nobody any harm or offence, it's fine.

The problem with handing keys over is there would be a lot of people who own expensive cars who wouldn't want to and I for one could hardly blame them.

Shame really, Benni.

It will cost them the event potentially from what he has already posted in this thread, or if not the whole event, then some of the freedoms they are currently allowed as previously trustworthy people to rent the circuit and camping area to.

I think it will prove very difficult to proving that it was a certain person especially in a court of law as the reg of the car was not taken at the scene of an accident its just people saying they know who did it which would then require them to give evidence in court which i some people might not be willing to do.

Good luck with finding them though and nailing them for it

I would be very glad to see cars signed in and out for camping - think it would do a lot for security and peace of mind as well as maybe deter idiots like this

What a good idea Lyndsey, stick someone in the camping area entrance, and as cars come in, add their reg to a list, and take details off the drivers license, no details, no camping.

Seems the ideal solution?

We will sort something out for next year and if people don't like it then they will have to go camp somewhere else. We must think about peoples safety first. This would have been a different thread all together if it had been a tent that had been ran over with kids in!!

Maybe have someone checking for damage, like when you hire a car and you sign to say what was there and what wasn't?

I dont think that seeing which car has the kids headmarks in the bonnet after someone has killed someone else's child is sufficient you need to stop it happening not just notice who it was after.

As Scott says, it needs to be a preventative measure.

Really sorry to hear about this.

Tis such a shame and has ruined a good weekend for someone.

Maybe enforce a curfew on driving cars?

SO after 11pm no-one is to drive their car on/off or even around the site?

I believe that evidence was taken by the police that can easily identify the car. They have a partial registration number they know what area the people are from, they know the make and model of the car. I'm sure the police investigating the incident will be on the case, especially should the CCTV show them everything they need to know.

Unfortunately people turn into Rambo when they have had a few drinks and they don't like being told what to do so trying to police this would be impossible for members of our groups alone.

Generally the people camping are Local Groups, Track Entrants and some general public. If there are any problems with Local Groups then they could be banned from the show the following day and banned from future events. Should it be someone on track then they could be banned from track and not be allowed to participate and banned from booking track time in future. General public camping could only be offered to people we know and trust. That way local groups could self manage the people with them as the consequences are for the whole group and track entrants lose their track space if they misbehave. It's an incentive for people not to act like idiots.

Good stuff, its just if that was the case whats the point of this thread as the police obviously have enough evidence to find and prosicute the people involved. I was under the impression that the people who did it were known by a few people there but they were not willing to give names to the police etc? Obviously got the wrong end of the stick

Lots of people come on this forum. No harm in trying to get some further information to give to the police to help their investigation

I saw the Audi on Sunday, proper sickening that someone would do that then just fuck off.

Why drive your car on a full campsite pissed up? Movement shouldnt be necessary at all once you are all set up but even if it is then you only ever need to move a few feet.

There is simply NO EXCUSE for what has happened and I hope all involved in protecting the driver and the driver himself are banned from future shows.

Maybe an idea for next years camping could be someone taking names and addresses of every camper and maybe a snap of every car on a digital camera as it drives onto the camp site. Then say from 11pm to 7am all vehicle movement is prohibited unless with good reason. Just an idea.

Default Thank You

I would firstly like to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to the Derbyshire Group.

I have been a member of PF for a while but dont post much, to be honest i am not on here very often - and after the Superb weekend with some of the friendliest bunch i have ever met I can honestly say that by the majority of RS and Car people are so damn sound and generous! Special thanks Rachel for the incredibly brilliant food and to Dingy for managing to juggle driving whilst keeping others in check and helping organise everything - Of course there were loads of other organisers and I thank you too

After the weekend I am now a convert to Track fun. we met so many people from England, Ireland, and Scotland, everyone was friendly and it was such a laugh. I spent my whole journey home in the car with Andy R and Chop talking about how we will hire vans and trailers and take our own cars down to Croft and join in next year.....spirits were high......

So imagine how angry it makes me feel that the minority spoil things for the majority. A hand full of idiots come along and act like complete twats. Surely somone knows exactly what went on, there must have been a lot of noise.....

Someone knows.....and if the croft track day and RS show a one-off for this newbie - then the car world will truley be a sadder place.

They must be named, or we will loose a lot more in the future.
