Default cosworth rear arms/roll bar

Really silly question but can the rear arms and roll bar off a 4x4 cosworth fit on a 2wd 3dr cosworth .
The reason for asking is i have a 4x4 rear beam set up spare and the 2wd set up on the 3dr is badly corroded in the spring seats on the rear arms so i was wondering if the 4x4 rear beam and arms including the roll bar (4x4) would fit .

Thanks Travis

I know the 4x4 roll bar is thicker, so you'd need to get 4x4 ARB bushes to fit it.

The 4x4 beam only takes a 7" diff rather than the 7 1/2" 2wd diff, so you can't use that. Not sure if the arms are interchangable or not though?

it will fit but the 4x4 diff is smaller. so you cant ( without any mods) fit the 2wd diff.

Thought that might be the case with the rear beam / diff sizes .

Just wondered if anyone had done the 4x4 roll bar and rear arms on a 2wd beam fitting to a 3dr car . I will be changing the hubs over from the 2wd if there different .

Well the ARB goes on no problem from what i understand, i don't see why the arms would be different, but there may be some obscure reason they don't work!

2wd rollbar is different to 4x4, so if you want to use it you'll have to weld brackets to the chassis to accept the new rollbar, that would allow you to run the 4x4 arb (thicker) and the 4x4 arms.

OR you could do what some people do and grind down the lugs on the 7.5 inch diff and make it fit the 4x4 beam. then weld the arb moutns to the chassis and use all the new stuff you have.

Either way the 3dr rollbar is inferior to the 4x4 ones as its longer and thinner so a mod worth doing

Dan

EDIT to say hubs are same from 2wd and 4x4!!! so use whichever are better condition

The 3dr has a different rear arb to all the other cossies (2wd saph, 4x4 saph, escos). Same goes with the rear arms.

this is what i have done on my build,

2wd rear beam (common to 2wd cossies), 4x4 escos rear arms, escos arb,7.5 inch diff and shafts.

The only thing stopping you just changing the arms over is the arb location on the arms, get that modded and you can use them no problems.

If you weld some pickups to the new position you can use the arms!

If i use the 4x4 roll bar would that be a better option for handling and weld new brackets onto the car . by the way the car looks like this at the moment .

Yes matey, the thicker the better. escort cos is thickest (ford made them thicker with every new cos IIRC).

If your car is on its side then it's a no brainer to weld the brackets on.

Cheers

Might as well get it done sooner than later . Pain in the backside welding upside down , splatter running down your arms . Oh the pain .

Next job , weld brackets for arb .
Cheers Dan for the replies , youve been a great help .

The arms are the SAME as the xr4i(mk1), the difference in the ARB is that the cossie one is thicker, at 14mm instead of 10/12mm, they locate in the same place, although all mk1 shells had the rear ARB attachment points like the 3 door/xr4i, you will need to as said weld on location for the arb brackets.
You then have a choice of roll bar 14mm mk2 sierra, 16mm sap cos(2wd) 18mm (cos 4wd), 21mm scorpio cossie, 22mm escos..
The diff can easily be made to fit by sawing 1/4" off each end of the top rear mounting.
If you drill the roll bar between the end "lug" onto which the drop link goes and the flat section towards the mounts use a bolt to secure drop link this will alter the stiffness due to leverage effect.
