Focus ST vs Focus RS
What would you choose? and why..
Ask me a year ago and i would shout foucs RS everytime. However the ST's looks have grown on me, (especially in white and red).
The ST probably drives better and seems to have as many upgrades available, it sounds better in my opinion to. Maybe the ST is a better car after all??? Ohh and with the right alloys i think some ST's look better than the RS
Can anyone post pics of the their ST'S ??

Stevie cossie has just made a good point -- the focus st comes in different colours however the RS would require a full respray, i think this would dent the re-sale price

I drove both cars back to back for a mini test in Fast Ford a year or so ago, and the RS is by FAR the better track car. The ST is a little too soft and the brakes are rubbish for such a performance car. Combined with the lack of a proper diff (it uses an open one with electronic traction control), it's built to a budget and the Renault Megane (turbo) is a much better car (if you want to compare similar age / value). IMO, as usual of late, Ford dropped the ball. The new Focus RS (with just bolt on parts to the ST), with proper brakes, a Quaife ATB, new "Revo" front suspension, new exhaust manifold and turbo, different management and uprated suspension is the car the ST should have always been. If you can afford the Ł25k for one of these, and it has to be a Ford, this is the car to get .

Wow shocked at what Mr Rainbird has said above!! i assume you know your cars like the back of your hand, but still shocked you have slated the ST . Nice to see a point of technical point of view tho... track use aside , for everyday use.. i guess you will still choose the RS??
Ps FAO mr Rainbird what has the stronger engine , ST or RS?? - which engine would withstand the most abuse?...

ST for me, as I'd already had 2 Mk1 Focus's and didn't want another, plus I wanted somthing newer with more toys, like heated front screen.
I also found the ST more comfortable than the RS, maybe im just getting old

my old mans got a 350 bhp focus st with a quaife diff, had a go in it the other day, just feels so heavy! hope they make the new focus rs alot lighter than the st, otherwise pointless putting an rs badge on it, might aswell call it the focus st-4

The problem with all replacement models now-a-days, is that they are ALWAYS heavier then the preceeding car, in order to comply with ever stringent crash test requirements. This means that the performance is ever more diluted, or takes a big power increase just to keep par with the previous model.
Ford unfortunately has no intentions to 4wd the current generation Focus, but the next one will have a 4wd platform and it will be down to the "bean counters" to decide which way tp jump - therefore don't expect one, and even if they do, it will be a backward step compared to the forth-coming FRS, due to more cost cutting power-plant wise .

Focus RS for me it seems every other car is an ST they look bland and "mass produced" if you know what I mean, the Focus RS looks special saw one today as I headed onto the M1 and on the road they look and personally the blue is perfect.

Focus RS for me really,
Its more raw and has better presence than the current st,
Surely a heated windscreen could be retro fitted into it to make it a perfect (dry) all rounder?

the rs is more of a aggresive car not so much of a everyday car were the st is more common and got all the mod cons. the rs handles very well and so does the st but not half as good so the rs is a real drivers car

Gotta be the ST, as I've just bought one, but tried many FRS before I decided to go for the ST.
As far as I'm concerned, the ST alround was far better, with more pontential.
here is mine
Cheers, Mike

Driven both very hard, own one version. Focus RS a more thrilling ride all round, and its built with Ford engineering, derived from rally heritage...the other one's just a Volvo...
