Default Private Plate retention?

Am I right in thinking the car has to be MOT'd and taxed, and the fee is £80 for taking it off a car and £25 for the retention?

fraid so pal! its a right pain aint it! you have to present all the documents for them to take it off, and sometimes (like in my experiences) they've actually wanted to come look at the motor before they take any action! your prices are about right, but they dont charge to assign the plate to your new chosen vehicle
