Only do local day work om 8 wheeled bulkers for an animal feed place.

Did fancy running my own unit dragging skeletals around for someone else, but wiehged up the costs vs takings and knew with my luck I wouldn't make a lot!

Do you run your own truck and does it make you good money?

used to. Now a transport co-ordinator.

I wouldnt advise re training just because you have seen tankers on 30k+.

Alot of drivers do earn this type of money but you have to be prepared to do 60ish hours a week inc poa, start at silly times of the day and be away sometimes all week.

no i dont own my own truck i work for a company from chepstow who own 12 artics that are all on containers, i take home 550 a week and thats including my night out money. work silly hours aswell,
me annd the wife weighed it all up to buy a truck etc but with the fuel costs soaring its just not viable. one fucked tyre a week and your bolloxed. plus these big companys like maritime, elite, hanbury davis tend to give us subbies all the shit heavy work that there own drivers dont want. seem to be 44 tonne most of the time which kills the fuel economy up even more.
love my truck though, 53 plate volvo fh12 460 with office spec, euro 3 so no digi card needed

find an agency that is willing to take you on, best of both worlds then, money when you need it and look for a decent job in the mean time

truck driving is crap seen loads of lads start at our place with a mrs but are now single takes over your life the drivers think its good money but when you say to them you are doing nearly 2 wks work in one week for buttons
plus you only get about £20 quid a night out for looking after the truck and you are that knackered you just fall asleep when you park up for the night
