After Yumsters engine failure that's been attributed to the 99 block it's started me thinking... I want to know the following )I'm not interested in what folk have heard just hard clean facts that can be backed up.)
1: Were they all made in Turkey and what company?
2: Who has had one fail and what was the output of the engine?
3: Who is using one and what output is the engine?
4: What size bore are 99 owners using and using liners or not?
I reckon this could be interesting..

Seeing as my engine was rebuilt in 2003 with a brand new 200 block i am assuming that mine is one of the 99 versions. Will take a look when i am next under it.
I would add bore size to the info as that is pretty critical to the pressures a block can withstand.
Exactly, the "99" blocks are known to have a wall thickness thinner than the original items, hence why they get linered more often than not - either after the block has cracked or to prevent it from doing so.

What thickness are the walls? And if liners are the Mountune veriety what difference would it make anyway?
Might we worth getting a couple of gash blocks for both non 99 and 99 and measuring them, I did this with a vuaxhall block, i just kept boring it out again and again until it broke through and then was able to see the thickness of it.

From what I have been told, they can vary from anything fron 0.5mm to 1mm less than the original blocks.
I wish to refrain from answering that last question, as I think I know what you're trying to get me to say . Suffice to say, I agree with you if I am correct in my assumption of where I think you're going with this .
Where these blocks not designed with 220 bhp in mind??
Surely there is only so much a block that wasnt designed for 700 bhp can take?
Is that not the answer or am I being a turkey...
design of the YB was for alot more than 220bhp,they were drastically detuned for the road,there is a nice story about the prototype car that cosworth presented to ford and fords answer was,we cannot sell that to the public!!can you make it a good bit slower please?!!!
even a N/A pinto can make almost 220bhp on a 205 block!!
i remember seeing lots of escort cosworth rally cars about 8-10 years ago with cracked head bolt holes,maybe 10-15 over a couple of years,all using the "new" blocks at the time but running only 300bhp and most of them group N cars on a 32mm restrictor so its not just horsepower doing the damage.

they were cast from low quality donner meat not high quality lol

Thats my understanding too, its not just the thickness, its the material itself that is substandard, so even when you open it right up for mountune liners, the block itself is still weak and moves.
There is a good case for using seasoned blocks if you are going way past the original designed output.
I've found seasoned blocks good, ours is a seasoned 205 with 1mm overbore I know it only 350BHP but lots of people seemed to frown on going to the 1mm overbore

my old saph had done 14k on a 205 at 1mm over with greens and a t34 at 23 psi and was still going strong when i sold it.
Not being funny lads, but what a stage 3 saph does proves fuck all really, you wouldnt even know on your spec if you block HAD moved 1.5 thou like Daves did anyway!
I have a 99 block and Harvey said it was not the same "batch" as the turkish ones. He also mentioned looking for a 99 after the V to identify them and not looking the 99 near the breather outlet on the exhaust size (I was not sure if he was chatting shit TBH). This was on engine he built a couple of years ago and I was dubious about the block and still am really but the rest of the engine made it worth taking a risk. Mines at 435 brake. Its seen a fair bit of abuse so far (2wd)

just a comparison of my old car. the car ive got now has new block bought from woodford december 2006 so must be a 99 turkish surely, and hasnt been any bother at 480 hp although only had 4k miles so far.

To start with Chip it was just a comment on seasoned blocks, and I did put it is "only" 350bhp!
