Default Bp Ultmate Super Unleaded Fuel

Hi pepole ive been using shell V power for the last few months in my saff cossie. I thought i would try some BP fuel since my local shell garage has ran out of V power. I was just wondering if peole use the BP ultimate fuel are getting better miles per gallon like BP reckon you get. normaly the V power has been 1.20 a litre but the BPfuel was 1.23 today. So come on people do you get better mpg then.

glennshute - bp ultimate is total crap. I run V power or tesco 99 in my e46 m3. It has an intelligent ecu that always tries to advance the timing so you can feel the difference each fuel type makes very easily. When I put in BP (it is the one near work that I sometimes HAVE to use) I can feel the power drop off immediately. The two types I use and get the best performance from are V power and Tesco 99. I dont check for MPG improvements, I only check for performance gains. However what it must mean is that the car is running more advance so that makes it more efficient.

However I don't believe a cossie runs that sort of intelligent system. So don't know if you will see more mpg. Just thought I would give my experience of the fuel types u mention.

Ultimate is no where near as good as optimax IMO.

I have various friends that run knock detection systems on various turbo charged cars and Ultimate is the worst of the super unleaded fuels.

Jim - I expect it will not go past base map. So it detects knock and retards quite far back and then seeks advance over and over till it gets back to base map or hits knock and goes back a bit over and over.

So - with ultimate BP - it detects knock nearly instantly compared to the level of advance it had been running with better fuel, then attempts to advance up after a while... Thus it feels flat compared to what I am used to with it.

The theory is the same the only discussion there is whether it advances up to base map or beyond. I expect up to base is the case

Mine seems to use more fuel (don't ask why, it's most likely in my head) if I use BP's super, that or because it's just so much more expensive here and I get less for the same money elsewhere.

And I don't think it goes any better for the extra cost either, compared to my usual (which is Sainsburys, so what does that say about BP's super?).

welll i know the emmisons are out. A bloke i took it to 2 get the fueling checked said he adjusted the fueling so that it runs rich ive got it written down what it should be and what it is now.The car drivers mint on and of boost. Sometimes when i launch my cossie hard it chucks some black smoke out the exhaust. Some people say just leave it and some say the emmisons should be spot on.

ALOT of "chipped" cossies will not pass a traditonal MOT emmissons test and the tester will tell you its rich.

I would get it checked by PROFESSIONAL tuner and forget about MOT emisions.

A bit of black smoke's fine - as long as the CO's alright, and it's not leaning out anywhere, I wouldn't worry.

Only used once in my Saff, tbh didn't really feel a drop off in power, mind you only put Ł10 until i got to the next V-Power, Sheady mapped mine on V-Power so i try to avoid any other fuel...

well my mate sorts my car out at mot time so i dont worry about that. I will have to start saving the pennys and get it tuned properly. I think i will b going back to V power. I went past the shell garage and there was a sign saying no fuel ha ha ha.

Would it be an accurate assumption that any higher 'ron' petrol will be more efficient and thus result in better MPG?

I know whenever I tried the 'fancy' fuels in the Morris the MPG was vastly improved. I havent bothered in the escort, theres little point.

right i have a legacy GT B with a mines ecu and loads of other bits and its very very picky with fuel, the knock sensor kicks in on anthing other than V power. I have tried all makes of 97 even tesco 99 is not as good as vpower.

What do people think of Esso Premium 97?

Also, is it worth buying regular then using octane boost?
