Standard UK Scooby Old style will be beaten by a standard 2.0 xe NOVA!

I 've had a 2.0 16v Throttle Bodied Nova 200bhp that use to pull away from RB5's, STI & WRX scoobys also standard Evo 6,7

also had a 300bhp C20let NOVA that use to piss all over so called fast cars

Old style Scoobys are slow they are only quick 0-30mph then after that utter crap

And for any1 that knows me will know i've had nearly every type of engined nova there is!

Its NOT just in a straight line they are quick.

Got to coombe and watch the faster lads there in theirs and you will see you need a fairly well sorted scooby or evo to match them.
Totally agree.

1.3sr You do get some wierdos on here.
What makes the 2.0 xe so special is that cosworth designed and manufactured the heads for vauxhall and that is where the simple fact of where the power comes from.
Put simply you can't fault the engineering prowess of cosworth.

I had an Evo and a redtop Corsa, the corsa was 170 ish. Cam's, head work, raised rev limiter, exhaust etc etc. Evo was standard, the Evo was a fair bit quicker. Corsa was fully stripped.
I have to agree with you on this one to be fair but I would say it could be possible to get a nova down 700kg's as they aren't that heavy as standard are they.

Agreed, they designed the ford cosworth head, then they spent a couple of years doing research and development, and after that they did the head for vauxhall, now given that the lads at cosworth werent exactly stupid, how good do you think that head is going to have been?

700kg is a seriously stripped nova if its got an Xe and F20 gearbox in it.

800kg is easy though.

So getting down to that sort of ballpark isnt hard, but the actual 700kg figure itself is a bit more effort.

Full respect that man !

Ian's 3dr is a tool, I think he quoted around 550/560hp Gt30, antilag etc etc - car is QUICK & very well built !

Now the Nova

He's a very good pal of mine, we went down there last night for a giggle & had a lil play wit a new RS4 we eventually baited to let ripp on the 25 - he wasn't too happy when both my shabby lookin saph flew past him & by a lil red Nova with carbon blah blah windows & a white cage ! got told off by Adrian (Nova owner) for callin the windows perspex !

It is indeed a 2 litre XE on Throttle bodies, with launch control & anything else you could possible have ! The car is QUICK ! His hasn't got NOS on it, doesn't really need it He has spent quite a bit on it, he loves it & uses it on track nearly every week at the mo !

He did do an Evo he told me bout & did manage to sit on Ian's bumper but they didn't have a propa run due to traffic etc !

Chip, you & Rob (Spanishfly) have heard bout this car cos I keep tryin to get Rob out to race him ! and the guy peeps is refering to wit the purple Corsa is Wayne (Chip you meet him @ Surrey meet months back). The Corsa run a 13.1 @ 110mph, but the cars no more, he's now got a moonstone 3dr wit a purple cage, runnin around 400hp & he can drive !

I'll ring him now & tell him bout this thread ! Cheers for the comments tho ! That Saph you done which was properly slow was probably mine !

At last, some reasoning as to why the nova is quick. As I said before though my mates goes like stink (a very very fast stink at that) shame I have no videos to prove it, afterall it would be really good to prove all of these haters on here wrong.

Agreed mate, they are a fantastic engine as standard so if you decide to play with them and get the right bits done you have a total animal. You don't see too many na zetecs doing 280bhp but its not that difficult with the xe at all.

Indeed, its not difficult to get that sort of power, but it is very expensive (just phone up swindon and pay them 15K or so), hence the reason most people go turbo for those sort of numbers.

JB, yeah I remember wayne mate

My corsa weighs 781 with sound deading and glass still in it, and a nova is far far lighter

theres a 1.16 16v nova running around (dhdev) Which is 640kg

so fully lightend + extra xe weight and 700ish is achivable IMO

my brothers astra cost around 7k to get to 240-250bhp. you can spend a couple of grand after this for 10bhp and so on..

yeah 240bhp is literally half the price of 280bhp

280bhp N/A xe on a road car would be useless IMHO

Cosworth only cast the head, Fritz Indra designed it.

My understanding is that you have misread that.
Cosworth were consultants on the design of the head not just the casting of it.

India was in charge of the engine project overall, and in productionising their design, but they still did the initial design work.

I always thought that Cosworth consulted the design of the motorsport head (Which came about earlier than the road versions?), which GM wanted to just throw on the road cars and Indra wasn't really happy about it so changed it dramatically?

I think it was 0ddball posted up a different document about it on MIG about 4-5 years ago which goes in to more detail about it, all that one really says is he was "dismissive of the groundwork done by Cosworth"...

My old 16v nova was 138 bhp at the wheels with just and exhaust and filter. Was a particularly strong engine thou. used to easily keep standard imprezas and cossies from going past.

Great little cars for not a lot of cash but you are still better off with a 205 Mi IMO

XE engines are fantastic bits of kit, really grunty for NA and rev like a bastard as well, people underestimate how fast 240BHP of lag free power is in a shoe-box. Some Nova's have very big teeth indeed

true but i bet 1 in 50 has 240 bhp,,more like a set of jenveys and an entry level manifold so 190-200bhp.

Not even 1 in 50 XE novas are that much IMHO, 240bhp is very rare still on an XE road car really, but then a nova is devestating to most things even at 200bhp so thats all gravy anyway, lol

Default was that me?

If i was the bloke in the saff that was so slow it got beat by a shitty standard impreza and was massively outhandled by the same impreza then i would be pissed off big time because of the claims that people with cossies make that they just cant back up, I bet you he tells all his mates its 350hp.

Just wondering mate, was it a grey one, that poodled it round the roundabout and didn't floor it on the way back down?

cheers

re' the weight of a nova's

my race car (750mc stock hatch) is a fairly standard stockhatch Nova GTE, cage, one seat, lead suspension, it weighs about 844 kg with me in it (they weigh us after each race) so if you remove everything and use non glass windows 700 kg should be possible (without driver)
