Question about 3dr's

Do all 3dr wings have date stamps on the top of the wings?

Just went and looked at a 3dr and one of the wings didnt.

Just wing looked original, the mouthing rails looked untouched, the factory seam tape on the front panel was untouched, the mouting was perfect and underneath the underseal looked original.

Very strange i thought all 3dr wings have ford badges and dates stamps.

Do they?

It was the drivers front wing if it makes a difference.

Alos the slam panel was original and ford stamped and date marked and so was the other wing, but not this one.

Gav Diamond Oct 29, 2004 02:35 PM

Think they are stamped on both wings mate.
Not 100% though

Ryan Oct 29, 2004 02:37 PM

yeah thats what i thought, but you know how many 3dr i've looked at and this wing looked original. just no date stamp.

Ryan Oct 29, 2004 02:51 PM

bttt someone must know.

3drstretch Oct 29, 2004 02:55 PM

It may be a replacement ford wing BUT been put on Properly. This can happen and in some case's undetectable. :top: :top: :top:

Ryan Oct 29, 2004 03:00 PM

yeah just seems strange as its that good a job though. I.e not a single mark on the mouthing rail, welds are perefect etc etc

Jsut seems strange.

Its hard a back panel aswell (but not done with a ford part), but also done well, but i would want to put a proper ford item on there, as non-genuine items are wafer thin

Just stuck as what to do.

:?

craigp Oct 29, 2004 03:02 PM

Ryan Oct 29, 2004 03:04 PM

You dont know Ryan very well do you, the right one is never gonna happen as he's tooooo pickey.

maxest Oct 29, 2004 03:06 PM

The stamps can be quite faint, possibly been painted a couple of times- therefore covering it up!?

Max

B11GNS Oct 29, 2004 03:12 PM

I am 99% sure they are all stamped but if their not it isn't that bad a thing they could have just been replaced due to a bit of rot, not unusual for an 18 year old car.

Ryan Oct 29, 2004 03:13 PM

yeah thats what me and the owner where thinking.

As there is evidence of paint.

Might ask him to rub that suspected stamp area down a little.

Ryan Oct 29, 2004 03:22 PM

yeah i know Gav

hence why im going down this route as its the only way i can have exactly what i want.

R4N SS Oct 29, 2004 03:25 PM

bttt for more suggestions

TIFF Oct 29, 2004 04:19 PM

Ryan

Only 1 of my wings has a date stamp on it BUT like you have said about the car you are looking at, the seals etc are PERFECT ;) ;)

I went through the whole, "Is it, isnt it" thing but in the end it is perfect and without looking for a stamp would never know :top: :top:

SPADGE Oct 29, 2004 04:23 PM

All 3 doors have both wings stamped!
Ryan i suspect that you will never find exactly what you are looking for so why not just take the plunge :?

Uncle Henry Oct 29, 2004 04:46 PM

If its ben done well enough that the only issue is no date stamp I wouldnt let it put you off mate!

It could have had a woman driver scrape it in safeway car park or something! :content:

ryan

every single panel was stamped on a 3dr the yr eg: 86/87) if there's no stamp on the panel or panels they have been changed at some point in it's live :top: :top:

cheers Marco

Ryan Oct 29, 2004 07:33 PM

panel must have been done very very early on in its life, and been done by fords.

Not that fussed, its a old car got to expect some knocks.

Cleanest shell i've seen in a while though

64k miles and kept in a warm climate so no rust
