Air injectors
are just large normal fuel injectors used as air flow control
when controlling boost levels via the actuator.
Usually found in pairs side by side.
They give precise control of boost at all levels/rpm as mapped in the ECU.
Kind of an expensive AMAL valve if you know what that is !

This is done by pulsing the injectors open/closed very fast and varying the
open time which averages out the air flow to the actuator and thus alters
boost pressure.

Air INJECTION
is used on some cars to help the cat warm up quicker when the engine is cold.
This is usually done with an electric pump.
This was fitted to reduce exhaust emmisions.
This has NO performance advantages (was used on the Mk5/6 RS2000)

Is this basically just pumping extra air into the exhaust system??. Could you use this to make a car setup rich to pass an MOT??

XRTypeRS, Yes in theory you could do this subject to the air pump able
to deliver enough air at the MOT test points.

So you just let the boost bleed out the fuel inlet and simply pulse them as normal injectors??

Some have used old fuel injectors, but they have to be huge or very many to really work.

Nope.. fuel injectors are designed to flow fuel and as such get very very hot and fail when used without their primary coolant medium
