Age and heat cycles principally......

All metal work hardens and goes brittle,eventually it cracks

There are other causes,like not cleaning out bolt holes when you do a gasket change,causing hydraulic pressure to crack the block etc......

is it something to do with detonation on high boost app's

Running high boost/Power engines will obviously mean higher cylinder pressures which will accelerate the ageing of the metal and cause problems,yes.....

Thats why my last one didnt crack, stu live map....

The one before did i put that down to oil spray jet blocking
