Default E46 M3 or Audi RS4 Avant???

Your opinions please, Im very interesred in the two cars and will probably end up with one or the other in the next few months.

How reliable are they, well Ill re phrase, how fragile are they when driven hard, a LOT??

Common faults with the two models etc etc.

e46 m3! wicked motors!
i work for a bmw dealer, tbh we dont get alot of problems with them. only minor things like slight oil misting from the driveshaft seals and rocker cover gaskets leaking.
only thing is that the brakes aren't really up to the job, they get far too hot too quickly and suffer from fade. a decent set of pads should help that.
they make an awesome noise and you can get 35mpg on the motorway

Audi RS4 every day of the week, its just a bit more special than the common M3. The M3 is a great car BUT its far too common IMO, and you cant beat the noise of an RS4 under load.

Old RS4 only came in Avant mate, new V8 one comes in Saloon, Avant and Cab(yuck!!).

To answer the question I work at Audi/Porsche dealership and for me it would be the RS4. M3's I have drove are great fun but as a day to day car you can't beat the estate and boost, much more useable and good for tuning

On another note I prefer the new RS4 to just about anything I have driven ever(997 Turbo was a bit better hahaha)

Barry.

My brother-in-law has a 56 plate RS4 avant , i had a drive of it on boxing day, awesome brakes & handling, the V8 revs like fook. He's only had it since December & my sister doesn't like it as its too bumpy & too small, the pram takes up the whole boot, he's just put a deposit down on one of the new Lexus ISF V8's 8 speed which is just as fast as the RS4,got to wait until October for delivery. Surely the RS4 will be a lot more money than an E46 M3 of the same year, the pic you have put up of the RS4 is the old model, looks quite dated compared to the M3, the newer shape RS4 is really nice.

Simon.

It does in the model and year he is looking for, the V6 twin turbo RS4 mate.

They do an RS4 in other guises, cab and saloon etc, in the new V8 shape but not the old one.

Is the fact its an Advant not a bonus? I know with mine it is. How many cars can go 5 up, have half a ton of cement in the boot AND do 155mph?

Well so I hear

The RS4 is the V6 Bi-Turbo model, not the new one.

I just dont have new RS4 money.

Which of the two can turn up at the ring and put in a decent lap without understeer and properly balanced? The M3.

The Audi does sound pretty cool but I would never change my m3 for one. Maybe the new style rs4 but none of the rest of them, especially not one of the older ones.

My m3 gets it PROPER style on a daily basis. So far all good. Doesn't even burn any oil going to 8k revs all the time once warm.

My insp2 did not cost £1200 more like £875 or something

cheers

RW

difficult decision

i havent driven an rs4 but have had a s4 which has the 2.7 twin turbo engine-felt like it needed more power(which the rs4 obviously has!)

i like the e46 m3-but like the e39 m5 a little more!

I have, but.......... Something just doesnt make me say "I want one"

Id thought about Jays.
Think you should get hold of an RS4 and compare it to the M3 Jay.

Has to be Dolphin Grey RS4 and the M3 has to be Steel Grey.

RS4 All the way. So practical yet so much performance. Also only around 400 ever came to the UK so has the rarity factor (Hence the prices too). I think there is about 400 M3's in the same postcode as me.

Ive got one and its just an awesome awesome car. I would say quicker than an M3 as well in every aspect. Not by a lot, but enough to just pass one down the back straight at say Bedford. Only downside is like the M3 the standard front brakes are not up to the job but thats easily fixed with a set of new shape RS4 or RS6 Brembo 8 pots. They bolt straight on.

Awesome car on track to if you want to do that with it. Ask anyone who has been in it!

600 notes gets you a stage 1 upgrade to 420/430 BHP that will mean you mince M3's and pretty much anything else on the road.

1300 gets you 440/450 horses and both with total reliability and then nothing will touch it.

Hope that helps you make your mind up.

The RS4 was the car I had my heart set on right from the start but the M3 has popped its head up a few times and it got me wondering a little.

What kind of tuning prices do M3's come with???

i find the rs4 is a vey nice car but loooks abit dull. and the torque delivery is very boring, theres no wow factor in the torque. the m3 is also a nice car imo its abit more aggresive.

No brainer, gotta be the M3. Only criticism is the brakes could be better. For general road use, they are sufficient. For anything else, they're not. But there are some awesome upgrades available

Quick Reply: E46 M3 or Audi RS4 Avant???
