Default driving without an MOT..

so i've just remembered my MOT rang out last week not used it for a few weeks which is lucky, however to get it thru the next MOT i need a new exhaust, if i book my car in at the exhaust centre am i ok to drive it there and straight home? I know i can book it into the MOT place and its ok to drive there ( i think )

According to Cambs Police

"If your car fails the MOT you may drive it to a place of repair or for scrapping, providing this is also pre-arranged."

Which doesn't apply here.

Yes it does. He wants to know if it is okay to drive to the exhaust centre (place of repair) then back home before attending an MOT.

Does not apply though if he is fitting it himself and just buying the parts.

What I quoted said if it had failed an mot.
It's not had an mot.
So what I quoted does not apply here.

My understanding is that the car can only be driven without an MOT directly to the test centre. IF it fails then and only then can it be driven within a set time period to a place of repair.

So for you to legally be able to drive to a place of repair you would need to submit it for a test first.

Can't you buy an exhaust and, god forbid, fit it yourself?

Seems abit stupid booking it in for the MOT first, knowing its going to fail as soon as it gets on the ramp, then having to rebook a re-test etc but i had a feelin that might be the case.
Can i get on a bus with a '3i exhaust?

i think id chance it myself, book MOT for just after you have the exhaust fitted, you'd be extremely unlucky to get stopped from your house to the exhaust place(assuming its a short journey)
