RS1600i's what are they worth?

There must be something wrong with me but I fancy a mint RS1600i preferably in a metalic colour with a preference of silver, what is something like that worth?

Mr S1 23-03-2008 08:53 PM

Nothing wrong with you Martin ;) cool cars.

Nice ones are about £3k.

Cool, find me a mint one in Silver for that amount and I'm in.... Not interested if it has an engine or not!

EsCosRacer 23-03-2008 08:55 PM

fraser9764 23-03-2008 09:00 PM

are them wheels 'shopped?

Mr S1 23-03-2008 09:01 PM

The rarer colours do command a premium - black and silver being the priciest. Red ones are usually the cheaper of the bunch but that RSi looks uber cool I must say

Lee Reynolds 23-03-2008 09:01 PM

Find a mint one for 3k and ill have 2 and not bother restoring mine! lol

Going by your standards Martin expect to pay around 4-5k for a nice one! 3-4 will get you a tidy one but not mint as you stated! Unless ya lucky!

EsCosRacer 23-03-2008 09:02 PM

Seeing as I suspect it'll get a mad engine and get tracked I didn't think he was after a concourse car, just something solid......

Redeye Jedi 23-03-2008 09:04 PM

trevCOSS 23-03-2008 09:05 PM

Martin-Hadland 23-03-2008 09:12 PM

I'm now narrowing my colour choice to Silver (thanks Marco) .. So please keep your eyes open folks, like I said I'm not interested in the mechanicals but the body and original spoilers are important.

Dan 23-03-2008 09:23 PM

Good call Martin, what's brought this on? :DD:

I LOVE Mk3 Escort's, hence my Series 1 :top:

jameswrx 23-03-2008 09:25 PM

I swear I saw quite a nice looking one the other day on pistonheads for £1695 in black. I thought it looked cheap and for a second considered it myself! Buggered if I can find it now though.

There's a couple on there that require a bit of work.. one with 108k in black and one with (apparantly) 43k miles both around £2k but one doesn't appear to have the coils.

jameswrx 23-03-2008 09:27 PM

It was this one I was thinking of, just thought it sat nice and haven't even looked at an RS1600i for years and it just caught my eye on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1983-Ford-Esco...QQcmdZViewItem

cheeky offer... :D

Too much metalwork replaced already, I would rather pay double for a non welded car.. Black looks ok though

Moonstone Steve. 23-03-2008 09:32 PM

Those front seats a pure sex.

Ima Racing 23-03-2008 09:38 PM

I had a red RS1600i back in the day..brilliant car...it pisses me off that folk are willing to change such an iconic car..Martin put your Audi engine in an XR3i dont ruin a classic

AMG probably feel the same way about their cars falling into the wrong hands ;-)

I wouldn't want an RS1600i with the original engine but with an Audi 20V turbo it will have modern go with 80's retro looks..

Lee Reynolds 23-03-2008 09:44 PM

I kinda agree with phil the big part of the rsi is the twin coils and decent(for its age) N/A power. Audi engine could go in a silver Mk3 base model stickered and spoliered up as an RSi...BUT its up to the individual what he does with the car!

roro22 23-03-2008 09:49 PM

That would be sweet.
A guy down the street from me had an rs1600i when i moved up and I couldnt help but stare at it all the time. The money i bought my s2 with could've got a very nice 16i  hindsight is great

B19LRW 23-03-2008 09:50 PM

gotta say i love the rs1600is! hence why i am building my van! :

Lee Reynolds 23-03-2008 09:51 PM

Black is my pref over silver but then i am biased!

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/0...S/DCP_7629.jpg

mint rs500 23-03-2008 09:53 PM

not that desirable are they. pay no more than 3k

carlo 23-03-2008 09:54 PM

I think the audi engine will be awesome certanly beats rs turbo lumps in them with shoddy conversions if its built to the same level as your escort & rover it would be the perfect rs16i imho.
