Digital SLR ? Starter camera?

Im quite into taking photos, and the pics i want to take of the cars etc, my camera aint quite upto it, i cant adjust a lot of the settings on it as it just has " best shot " modes, ( its a casio exilim )

Now im thinking of a Digital SLR, but only really want it as a starter camera until i get used to settings etc, preferably for as cheap as possible but still upto the job.

Ill mainly be using it for arty shots that require different light settings, preferably one that wil be able to capture fast moving shots as i struggle a lot when taking pics at the track days etc

anyone suggest a decent one thats not too expensive? i dont mind if its not a super up to date one, as long as it does the job? Used my mates canon to take these, i didnt find it too hard as he explained what i needed to do, this is about the limit of my skills at the mo though :DD:

yeah i know i used a fish eye lens on 2 of em, i think he paid about £150 for the lens, i aint bothered about the fish eye at the mo but theyre the only pics i actually took.

2nd hand wouldnt bother me as long as it had a manual so i could figure everything out. Read the thread but didnt make much sense to me tbh

canon 300d off ebay would be a good start IMO

I sold mine on there and they generally go for around £200

are they quite easy to navigate and are they good for various types of photography? as i will be taking a lot of pics of the kids when we are on hols etc as well as the cars

300d is full digital SLR..

It has (as they all do) a full auto mode which is great 90% of the time and allow you to get a feel for the camera. They can also be used in full manual modes where (once you start learning) you can setup various different styles of shot.

As a starting base though they are a nice camera and ours proved very reliable.

its easy to use on full auto . tbh i havnt taken that many pics with it, only the car and kids really, but i wouldnt say its difficult to use. at first i was struggling, but there is a magazine called photoplus canon edition, that really helped me to understand the settings etc more, and what the camera can do. it can be a bit daunting at first stepping up from your average digi camera to an dslr, but if you have enthusiasm for photo's, once you get into the swing of things you'll love it. i bought my camera second hand on ebay, and it been faultless so far :top:
