I have only run coolant through 1 of my turbo's in 2 years and have only had 1 failure guess which
Now building an engine with swarf still in it that would be stupid

Exactly Spadge... the old Turbos don't need water cooling!

On a serious note is D8EAM a hom plate? I thought it was V cool...

Excellent stuff Porkie.

Phil, he's right mate. Most T34 / T4 car's are fine without water cooling. When myself and Porkie brought the GT turbo's Garrett (or more specifically in my case Vince at TURBOSHOP) never said that they needed to be water cooled + did not supply any water banjo's either. It's only after our turbo's expired they turned around and said the ball bearing turbo's NEED to be water cooled. Which was a fat lot of good considering they made this rule AFTER we brought the turbo's and didn't say at the time of when we brought them. Oh well, learnt the hard way I guess....for me the very hard way.

Porkie - pm us a price of the turbo pre-rad dude.

Thanks - Sunny.

COOOOOOOOL! thanks Martin!!! Sierra has one on both sides as well. The old Turbo cooler is going on the other side and will either be a Gearbox cooler or a Front Brake caliper water cooler.

Eggenburger Styleeee! Like it

Life is in the detail, I love looking at engineering . For me half the fun of my car is having to think of ways to resolve issues that doubling (or in Lee's case trippling ) the power output unearths!

Looks like an excellent job

Out of interest, how much does that fuel tank hold with all that foam in it? Also, is the foam there to stop fuel starvation under cornering etc or something?

The fuel tank is about 12 Gallons and you only lose about 3% of the volume due to the foam.

Foam does help with surge and is also a saftey measure if the tank gets ruptured in a crash. (It acts like a sponge)

10 GALS..
The foam stops fuel surge and also in case of a large crash holds the fire in one spot rather than spreading as the fuel splashes out....

Sunny/Porkie....Vince at Universal Turbo said you must ALWAYS run water thru the turbos...well on my T34 anyway!....and Turbo Dynamics said to always run it on the T4...Cosworth put the cooling there for a reason guys

Cool

What happens if you have to run it quite low unintentionally? Would you not be under more risk of fuel starvation?

Not dissing BTW (cos I know fuck all about stuff like that ), just trying to understand.

Yes, a hole is cut in the foam for the sender. Alex showed me it all yesterday and explained how the sender worked (I didn't know! )

Phil , the water cooling is only neccessary if your car spends a long time in traffic jams ! Ive never cooled a racecar turbo , T4 or T34 and never had a problem , when the air flow from forward movement is there its more than adequate to keep turbos cool .
Regards
Tony
