speed camera or traffic monitering camera!
local to where i live,i have just noticed some strange looking cameras which are on long poles clamped to the side of the street lights, they have got two black cables which run across the road to a grey box, does anyone know if these are traffic monitering cameras or speed cameras!

DS2 speed cameras use sensors that go across the road, but they're buried and the only tell tale is the lines across the carriageway and a grey box. If the lines/cables are above the road they're just for traffic counting - I read that the cables can also monitor speed, but they're not Home Office approved, so use that data only to work out average traffic speed and not dish out point...

I heard something like that, if 1 metre apart can clock your speed.
Heard nothing else on it, but always wonder, and where 2 sets slow down incase clocked average. A cameras a camera etc to me, never chance it  So they're not approved then, that's good. |
Its a traffic survey, sometimes you see white vans at motorway junctions with 2 cameras on long poles, its to help review the traffic flow on the roads and to see if improvments can be added i.e traffic lights, speed humps etc. so dont worry :)

weve got cameras around here on long poles that look like cctv but issue parking tickets, fines etc for yellow boxes, zig zags etc
|
they are CCTV cameras paul,,,,,, they are there to help catch all types of activity and are funded by the parking fines, if you got mugged/killed infront of a camera the person watching it will alert the feds

Anyone know what the ones round my way are that sit over the motorway? They are on a long pole that hangs across the carriageway and there are about 5 small grey boxes on them that point towards the traffic flow. No road markings or anything else, but they do look suspicious. They may be for something like emission zone or something, but until I know what they are, I always slow down a little.

think they are ANPR cameras ( automatic number plate recognition cameras) .

I wish my wife had 9 points lol. She drives so slowly our odometer does backwards.

Weve noticed some put up last weekend on A331 near junction 4 M3
There is no speed camera signs so they must be ANPR |
Think about it, if they wanted to COUNT traffic they could do this with one line, incidentally these are PIPES that cause a pressure fluctation when squashed by a tyre, as one end is sealed and the other end goes to a little measuring device inside the black box that will be padlocked/chained to the steet lampe etc.
ONE line will detect traffic for counting purposes, TWO lines MEAUSRES THE SPEED of those vehicles, so they can see if they need/want to rip off the driver anymore, sorry to help promote safety. They are NOT used for detection of INDIVIDUAL cars as the machine has no eyes. Lately as these have been getting destroyed, a NEW device has appeared, fitted onto the REAR of signs this also takes the average speed readings but is mounted around 8 feet high and held with TWO Stainless Steel jubilee clips to the lamp's post . It is a black box which when laid flat has a pent roof contructions and is locked and held by two locks on the box of tricks, that is mounted at 90 degrees to the road, and one more to hold the box to the bracket that has been secured to the pole. These are it seems being placed where they are going to have SPEED CAMERA VANS, working on and off, FOR ROAD SAFETY!! tabetha |
So I'm right to not speed over lines, or between two sets of them?
Nice! I'd noticed they all seemed to be in pairs and looked a metre apart. |
