Strapped front Diff's

I'm sure I've seen a picture somewhere of a strapped (braced) escort cosworth front diff???

Cant think for the life of me who sent me it?!?!?!

Anybody?

Franco Feb 22, 2008 07:33 PM

no one?

Fucking useless!

GARETH T Feb 22, 2008 07:35 PM

are you on about the strengthening plates that you bolt underneath

Franco Feb 22, 2008 10:56 PM

Nah Gareth, I've seen pictures somewhere of a standard diff casing with strengthening welded (strapped) to it......

Its gotta be worth a try! ;)

would that be inside the casing or outside jase?

Kelv Feb 23, 2008 08:36 AM

ie, obtain pictures of where they normally crack the casing, then have a company weld strengthening plates on the outer casing.
basically bracing and strengthening the outer casing.

As Jase is looking at this - its something we spoke about last year, but since then ive bought a thickwall diff.
im sure the extra bracing would aid its strength slightly, but need to see pictures of any that may have already been done, and to hear owners comments to see if its held up to the job whilst driven in anger!

Remind me again how long it took for Ben's thickwall to arrive?!?!

If yu can strengthen the casing for half of the money of a thickwall...........Then why not try! :DD:

So next question.

Stick your pictures up of broken front diffs please! :top: (Doug you need not apply! You're special and managed to break a thickwall!:cry:).

markk Feb 23, 2008 10:54 AM

once you have welded it up the weak point then moves, usually to the side of the weld where the heat has been.

Franco Feb 23, 2008 11:02 AM

What if te weak points moved to a place with more strength in the first place Mark (if that makes sense?) IE at the top of the casing?

Because if you have one welded and you break it, you then have to buy a thickwall anyway and cost yourself half as much again you dope!   ;)

i take it you've not seen pictures of doug's thickwall then dan? I'd rather take this to an engineer than wait for 8 months for a thickwall ta.
