Default fao mechanics or know it alls on 2.0 duratec engines

just bought today a 2001 new shape 2.0 mondeo was advertised with faults however not as described

so anyways i bidded em in the balls and loaded it ont he truck, story goes i think they had head off once and done the gasket, you know the type not pikey but cackers house kids etc gives it all away

anyways 550 quid and its mine

for starters its got a miss on idle, now i can here a gushing sound coming from under the big plastic manifold area at front of engine air leak?????

second its presurising a small amount and can smell fuel i think int he water so ok me thinks head gasket gone lol, so.......

thinking.... did they bother getting it skimmed when they done it or is head cracked etc, my instinct is they repaird it couple months ago and have been using it so obv its gone again

it drives ok but sticky revs sometimes?

thing is these are the newer type engines harder to find at reasonable money (i call reasonable 300 quid lol)
so im unsure what to do, did contemplate sticking a couple turds in it an offing it the the auction.

or maybe just stripping it and going from there

what woulod you do guys? do you know of an engine??

if you find another engine I'll have that one for a very reasonable price

but to see if its fine, I'd take the engine apart and have a nosey around, doesn't cost much to have a head pressure tested anyway

EDIT: ^^^ just seen that, take the inlet manifold off and replace with all new gaskets etc...

if you can hear it, they prolly forgot to reconnect a hose to the underside of the inlet.

get your hand in there, you will feel the air sucking in

couldnt see anything under the inlet although you can here it, expect ill have to take it off, to be honest due to the presurising as above ill just take the head off and get it skimmed / tested

presurised quite a lot earlier as i went for a run about in it.

i will however try find the airleak, if the gasket is bodgeable with a turd or two off to the trade auction it goes lol

its also got the famous plastic inlet rattle from a butterfly inside, heard other people mention it in past anyway to shut that up?
