reduces or eliminates torque steer on higher powered ones. pretty easy to do on a vauxhall, not so sure about fords though. basically the bit you need the same length is between the cv joints.
so you would have a solid shaft out of the box on the o/s going to a centre bearing bolted to the block and then an inner cv joint, then a short shaft to the outer cv joint.

was just thinking about looking into it and maybe modifying parts from another make of car or modifying ford parts to fit then using another n/s driveshaft on the o/s

Only used this system as i used a Mk3.5 fiesta subframe in the back of a Mk1 festa and could not use a conventional 2 shaft system

The fiesta..... lots of box tubeing
The 3 piece shaft system...... bit off 10mm plate and a welder (remember the subframe i used was designed for the shafts etc so everything fits perfect, just had to mount it to engine in the correct place )

I found out some mondeos have this set up as does the focus, so if using a zetec bottom end will just bolt straight on to either the sump if a focus or the block if a mondeo.
im currently fitting a st170 box to my zetec turbo engine. i just need to source the mount that holds the half shaft as pictured in the above threads.

Dependant on which bottom end you use, the early zetec silver top bottom ends run a 1 piece sump, with this you need the mondeo style mount that bolts to the block for the half shaft.
the later black top bottom end has a two piece sump as pictured on the above thread, the mount bolts to the top part of the sump. which is from a focus st170 set up.

as its going into an erst im going to be using the 1.8 sump i think so that it clears the exhaust so when i get round to doing it i will try and find the mondeo parts does it make any difference with general driveability do you know or is more for ease of use for higher power applications

Ive still to fit mine mate so cannot answer from my own experiences, however from what i have heard, this reduced torque steer on high bhp cars.
If your looking at 300+ then I from what i have gathered its worth doing.
if your not then a quaife diff should keep everything sweet.

Try and get a look underneath a Puma. They run a shaft through a simple bearing attached to the chassis leg. I've never had torque steer problems with loads of turbo torque running through the front wheels
