But comparing them to a fucking group b rally monster is a bit on the daft side, its like comparing a touring car to an f1 car, they both go round the same tracks, but thats where the similarity ends!

The Pulsar rally car was a bit of a flop. Let's not forget that the 6R4 was no world beater either. They dropped a bollock using an N/A engine and it wasn't competitive agaisnt the other group B cars.

To be honest though, there is a whole load of shit said on this thread
The whole reason the GTIR was made was for GrpA homologation, not GrpN.
Nissan Europe was in charge of the campaigns, and did a shit job TBH.
Aside from a couple of did not finishes it finished within the top10 every time, best result being 3rd place, so its not that terrible.
A couple of privateer teams campaigned the cars in GrpN, and it won GrpN in 1992, proving its pretty bloody good as a rally car.
It was mentioned theyd be good in GrpN if it wasnt for the IC. No, they WERE good in GrpN, same as Scoobys are with a top mount, a top mount not even as good as the Pulsar one.
In actual results, Pulsar GTIRs are MORE sucsessful in WRC history than 6R4... All 6R4s managed was a 3rd place and LOTS of Did Not Finishes, then GrpB was banned...

Well seeing as you was going on about if it had a decent intercooler it would be decent in GrpN, and it won the GrpN WRC, i think that point can be excused too eh

To be honest though, advances in suspension, brake, transmission, and tyre technology made later GrpA and WRC cars faster over the stages than the GrpB cars, even though they were a fair bit down on power, though not a huge amount between a early 90s GrpA car (way more powerful than current WRC cars) and a rather low powered (in comparison to others) GrpB car.
For example....
1986 Rally of Sweden
Distance: 1670 km including 558 km over 30 special stages
Jean-Luc Thevenaud- MG Metro 6R4- 6:07.08
1992 Rally of Sweden
Distance: 1674.05 km including 571.19 km over 31 special stages
Stig Blomqvist- Nissan Sunny GTI-R- 5:26.09
Unless im mistaken, that makes the GTIR significantly faster than the 6R4, and over a longer distance.

the metro of today is nothing like the original group B car, they are now a work of art and are out winning rallies most weekends.
there really is no comparison with the nissan, although tony bardy has one very impresive gtir in group A rally trim.

stop picking at things constantly, you like to always be right and like people to think you know everything, but when you talk about stuff you dont really know about, your not, so dont.
do what I and everyone does when its a subject they no expert on, shhhh
so they use totally different courses on rallys ever year do they? esp when the the stage distance and is incredibly, some would say almost magically, similar?
and conditions, yeah, your right once again
36th International Swedish Rally
Round 2 of the FIA World Rally Championship 1986
Stage surface: Snow and ice covered gravel or ice
41st International Swedish Rally
Round 2 of the FIA World Rally Championship 1992
Stage surface: Snow and ice covered gravel or ice
I just went through more results, and the only other one with similar miles is interesting too...
The 6R4s BEST ever GrpB result...
35th Lombard RAC Rally
Round 12 of the FIA World Rally Championship 1986
Distance: 2538 km including 517 km over 45 special stages
Stage surface: Gravel with some asphalt on the first day
Tony Pond: MG Metro 6R4: 5:30.14
Versus the best placed Pulsar (not podium, 6th i think) a fair few years later...
48th Lombard RAC Rally
Round 14 of the FIA World Rally Championship 1992
Distance: 2596.53 km including 565.41 km over 34 special stages
Stage surface: Gravel with some asphalt on the first day
Tommi Mäkinen: Nissan Sunny GTI-R: 5:35.07
The Pulsar, after 50odd more km stage time, and that top mount that if it wasnt there itd make the fair a fairly good GrpN car (even tho it won GrpN as is ), was only 5mins slower than the 6R4 over 5.5hrs worth of driving.
Or did they make rallying super easy in later years Chip? Mustve predicted the future, knew you was about to have some ill thought out argument on the net about it so thought theyd help you?
Mid-field GrpB cars from the mid 80s would destroy even a leading GrpA car from the 90s, never mind a crappy Pulsar yeah?

You are comparing 2 cars driven 6 years apart, in totally different conditions (hint not all snow is identical its possible for it to be different depths) on courses that are different and trying to draw solid conclusions from it.
Of COURSE im taking the piss with any comment I pass about that cause only a complete mong would view that as any sort of true scientific comparison like you are doing

............
I can remember a roadgoing Mitso Evo 8 340 on top gear absolutely reaming a groub b audi round the track so I reckon Stav's point holds up well about modern rally cars being quicker

Yeah right-o Chip You was taking the piss
I think the words are "clutching at straws"
That was a really clever and intelligent sarcastic joke seeing as they won the GrpN WRC with their standard top mount was it?

If you really want to see what a complete and utter fucktard you are being about the metro results you are posting up there claiming they are representative, then have a look at the VERY SAME rally on the VERY SAME year and see what car finished WAY ahead of the metro 6r4
12 29 Mats Jonsson Swe Opel Kadett GSI A 8 5:44.52
Johnny Johansson Swe 7 3 35.33
16 55 Jean-Luc Thevenaud Fra MG Metro 6R4 B 5 6:07.08
Alex Pistoletti Sui 12 5 57.49
Do you REALLY think that the metro time you have picked is representative of its pace given that a vauxhall astra MURDERED it in that event
Its VERY clearly YOU that is posting absolute bollocks and that makes it even funnier that you appear to actually be trying to take the crap you are posting seriously

And from the example rally you picked to show how great the pulsar was
SAME YEAR, SAME CONDITIONS, SAME DISTANCE:
11 31 Per Svan Swe Opel Corsa GSI A 9 5:49.43
Ola Carlsson Swe 4 3 28.45
13 33 Gert Blomquist Swe Nissan Sunny GTI-R N 4 5:55.08
Lena Lindberg Swe 4 4 29.31
So there you have it yet more "proof" that a vauxhall corsa this time is in fact better than a sunny GTI-R
You really are an absolute retard at times Stav with the nonsense you read off the net and read too much into!

LMAO @ DanW
Id just like to point out that the ONLY reason I just did the whole "owning" thing of stavros's "proof" is cause he kept going on about it as a right net warrior and it was getting tedious to read, I was quite happy to just take the piss a bit and not bother pointing out quite how retarded he was being with trying to compare results off the net that are totally unrepresentative of the real potential of the cars until he made a big issue out of it and how definitive it apparently is

...Stavros as you have said previously reference Chip..he seems to want people to think he knows everything about everything..and when he gets collared on a subject he has no knowledge he claims "pisstake"
Chip for you and well deserved yet again
