decent engines, 6bolt mains (well, 4 main bolts and 2 side ones), strong, do good power, etc.

any managment suits them, like any engine.

this car is LS1 powered... (with a supercharger too tho)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhQXEz06v7s

can get other and bigger LS engines too, up to 7 litres.
500odd bhp as standard on an LS7.

pretty basic pushrod cam in block engines, but thats all you need.

700odd bhp on stock LS1 internals when turbod.

mega cheap to buy and tune compared to smaller engines, but still nowhere near as cheap as if you used an older but just as good Chevy or Ford V8.

Available in various sizes, from 5.7 to 7.0 litres

Power ranges from about 300 to over 500.

6 bolt mains caps are pure porn, single cam, 2 valves per cylinder.

PUKKA motors, and barely any heavier than a YB!

Normally fitted to a tremec T56 which is kind of a cossie gearboxes big brother basically, 6 speed.

steve i was thinking of size and weight too, LS being alloy is a little lighter

not sure about turboing one,,,, like like the simpleness of em tbh

thinking 400bhp with as much touque should be able from a LS1 with some mods rather than strap problems to it

the sound nice too

600bhp,, be pukka driving that round central london to work im sure

they sound a great idea though,,, wondering why more people aint thinking like this hence learning

they aint elephant engines like the old hemi's, they alloy now too,, aint sure on price of em ( though thats the bit thats gonna sting i bet )

they ALOT smaller than a M5 engine too height wise it seems

why aint they being used more ?

LOADS of people use them.

Just not so much in the UK, as nobody uses V8s in the UK really.

But as V8s go, they quite common in the UK.

TBH iron small block V8s dont weigh fuck all either really, once alloy heads are on em, doubt youd notice much difference, esp in a road car.

Reason they not used loads is same as any V8, the bigger the engine the more grief it is to fit it. And people dont like grief in the UK, they like shit that just bolts straight in.

BUT the grief is fuck all IMO as long as your fitting it in something with a decent sized bay, value for money a yank V8 and box is still better than almost anything else.

LS1s in to BMWs is pretty common anyhow, i mean...

I work on them a little as the LS1 and LS2 are used in the Monaro's. Ive also driven/worked on an aftermarket supercharger conversion as well as the vxr500 jobby...both go well. Engine liked by the yank tank lovers either way...have you tried one of their forums for info??

steve in was reading a ls1 conversion from someone in the states but he seems to have modded the sump to make it fit and its L/hand drive also,, was worried about that part

they seem the best option for big bay cars,,, mines a 6 pot anyway so its longer than a V8 im sure and theres gonna be most room available

was hoping i might be able to get the engine almosy inline maybe behind the front wheel a little too and benifit it

just at the " pointless silly idea that will never happen" stage at the min though

Lots of conversion kits available for off the shelf ease in fitment.

944 + LS2 is a combination thats surprisingly been done quite a few times before for example, and is available off the shelf.

the 6 speed t56 is a good box, but it really needs 3.9's otherwise 6th is useless until higher speeds.
i very rarely even use fifth over here as you just cant do the higher speeds like you can there, plus i love the popping and farting it makes on lift off from my twin x-force exhaust

its defo not as quick as the 3dr
and power comes in a lot different as theres no turbo, but all in all i would say its surprising how fast they actually go once remapped, i reckon mine could proberly do 5 to 5 1/2 to sixty in the right conditions which aint bad for a car weighing 1600 kilo's.
what i love about this engine though is the torque it has, put your foot down in any gear and it just goes, plus the engine sounds sweet, defo not as sweet as the old v8's though.
a lot of tuners over here remapped them back to open loop over here, not sure why though, mainly after you start opening the engine up and putting cam's in
if i had the choice between the 2 i would always choose the ute over the 3dr, much nicer to drive

pops ig you had the choice over here, i know you like motorways and fun ect, infact your driving interest is similer to mine from what i remember and the way im changing

im toying with either cossie or V8 LS engine ideas ( bet i just buy a fucking boxster in the end )

the LS engine sounds too good a deal,,,, similer money for conversions for similer power too but the V8 seems the better deal for reliabulity,,,, im thinking id rather have a mock tudor mansion than acually hundred year old building if the was the same in every other way

i reckon i'd still go with the V8
but then im not into modding cars as such any more and mine as it is remapped ( apart from wheels and lowering ) is good enough for me nowdays
