Has anyone owned an Evo 6 AND 7?
As above was bored yesterday and looking through Pistonheads and noticed the Evo 6's seem to be getting a bit cheaper these days and i'm quite tempted!!
I have had an Evo 7 in the past and regretted selling it and would defo buy another but still quite fancy a 6!
Are the 7's much better to drive than the 6's? Obviously they have the active diff etc but for an normal driver like me (ie - not on track) would me driving a 6 notice it not being there?
If anyone has any opinions it would be great! Other motors on my possible list for after xmas is perhaps a Boxster S or maybe an F150 Lightning although the lightning maybe a bit impractical!!

Before I bought my VIII which has the S-AYC, I drove a fair few VIs and VIIs during my search for a car. The one thing I did find when driving the VI was that the AYC was a lot more intrusive and noticeable, but it didn't seem so noticeable on a VII.
The VI is much more of a 'raw' type of Evo.

I have driven several 6's and own a 7. Agree with Redkop, the 7 is a lot less raw to drive and more suited (IMO) to a round town type car but that said the 6 is a far cry from un-usable.
The 6's were always the weapon of choice for the racers here doing tarmac and hill climb events over the 7 and 8. This trend is changing slightly now which leads me to think it is partially price related.
7's are still easy to get out of shape (as you probably know having owned one!). Quick vid of me playing around at an event last weekend:

Red16 - not sure on the correct term mate (AYC?), I remember having the option on the dash to swtich between tarmac, snow etc.... but I couldn't tell the difference (hence wanting to know if the 6 has / doenst have it!).
i did love my 7 but like the raw type look of the 6 so thought I might try it! What sort of MPG do they get? I only use them for pootling about here and there so dont do any miles at all. My 7 used to be pretty crap but that had GEMs management, bigger f.pump etc etc.

Evolution 7 features a new Active Center Differential using an electronically controlled variable multi-plate clutch. The ACD boasts a differential limiting capacity three times greater than that of the viscous coupling-type differential used to date. In addition, the ACD's ability to tailor slippage for different driving conditions brings levels of steering response and traction control not possible with a viscous coupling differential. A 3-way manual override switch enables the driver to select Tarmac, Gravel or Snow modes to suit his preferences or conditions. The ACD also frees the differential on operation of the parking brake - thereby enabling the driver to make more effective use of side brake turns in rallies and other events.

I've owned a 6 and an 8FQ, driven a few 7`s but never owned one.
For me the 6 felt very raw which is why i bought it. BUT the 7 felt a better car to live with and the 8 was probably the best of the lot imho, i'd have another 8 but it'd be the MR320 next time..
Answer your question, just go and test drive them both, see how you feel about them, what you want from them etc..
If you can get hold of an RS Model in either 6 or 7, they're a great car, BUT as raw as they come too..........

Driven the following:
360bhp VI RSX - loved it, stupidly quick steering rack, rifle bolt gear change - awesome
320bhp VI Makinen - nice
550bhp VII - Mental - stupidly loud (as some muppet had removed the rear seats )
370bhp VIII MR FQ320 - Most civilised, nice alcantara seats.
Depends what you want it for as to which you had. If I had to chose one of the above, it would be the high powered car, as it was addictively lairy .

I'm not overly fussed on the 'rawness' of it so would avoid the RS model as i must have aircon etc..... I just thought the 6 might be nice to have as they are cheaper than the 7's, plus i've had a 7 already so nice to have something different. But if on the other hand the 7 is leagues better i'd have another one!!!!!!

i took out an fq300 and 330 viii a while ago whil i owned a focus rs. Now i ended up buying an evo 5 last week. and i love it agreed its not as civilised and u can get it out of shape but imo prefer the shape. i was in the market for a nice 6 or poss a gsr 8. 7 was never on the board as i just dont like the look of them.
Hoping to add a ralliart ecu and pump then i should have about 350-360 to play with. enough for me
Crowds.
