Putting in a shower for my gran at the moment, now ran in a 6mm twin and earth , from fuse board to pull cord positon then to shower, break negs through swith? yes ?
Now the crap bit , her fuse board is very old , old fuse wire breakers and the boards full
Now i know you can get a seperate breaker for showers which is fine , now the cable i ran to shower i connect to this seperate unit right??, but how do i power it ?? would i run a bigger cable then 6mm to my main board?? how does it connect, may just leave this side of it if its too scary or difficult but any help apprecited guys

the wire you use to feed your shower fuse, must be the right size to take the full current of where you connect it! so if yout taking the supply from the incomer to the old consumer unit, it will have to be rated for the fuse for the house (be it 60,80 or 100 amp)

Pull cord should be a double pole job with live and neutral switched.
How powerful is the shower?
6.0mm will just about take 40 amps with a short ish run (9kw max)
If you are not going to replace the board then i would suggest using a double pole block (service connector block) connected into the main incoming cables so as you can feed the seperate trip box from that.
Far easier than trying to cram 2 cables into the main switch of the old board.
Best get a sparky to connect the block into the mains cables though.

thanks mate, just checked and its 7.5kw shower
I know what you mean about connecting into old board as its tight in there, in theory is it just like for instance cutting into incoming cable to t off to new seperate unit, sort of like a cable joint box?? iL do the rest and get a sparky to do that bit, and to give it a check just incase
