ECU's - Technical question

Does anyone have have any information on the serial data stream from the P8 ECU? or know where I could locate such information as I need this to set up a ECU display interface.
I would happily pay for this information if required, the main problem is getting the required information in the first place. I assume this information must be available somewhere as the Collins monitor reads this stream... or is everything reverse engineered ?

Chip Nov 8, 2007 04:12 PM

Collins reverse engineered it I expect mate.

Wonder if Simon would know much about the data stream, hes clued up on this kind of thing

GARETH T Nov 8, 2007 05:20 PM

im sure simon has said before that he knows it :top:

St3V3_C Nov 8, 2007 05:26 PM

Do I remember that some chips don't produce the data stream?

LOL, how much you willing to pay ?

Only pectel, collins and MSD chips will produce the data stream provided
its enabled in the chip.

However its not a stricly a data stream.
You have to send it various commands that the ecu replies with data.
Also the P8 ecu needs a hardware mod to allow the interfce to work.

The interface on all version ECU's is non standard as is the low level byte protocol and serial baud rate.

I have no need to lie as Mr Rainbird can confirm I have this information :007:

CUNT ;) :)

Stu @ M Developments Nov 8, 2007 05:43 PM

Precisely which datastream are you referring to?

There are more than one.

ECU Monitor Enthusiast Nov 8, 2007 05:50 PM

Stu, I would assume he means the "pectel" standard deriatives on the P8.

Turbocabbie Nov 8, 2007 06:00 PM

Yes I have a P8 with a pectel board on it, i also have a digital dashboard that has the ability to read a number of stream types and the company producing this will ensure it reads the correct stream if I can provide information relating to this

Turbocabbie Nov 8, 2007 06:13 PM

what information do i need to know to get a display to read temps, pressures etc such as the collins monitor

ECU Monitor Enthusiast Nov 8, 2007 06:15 PM

UnseenMenace,

If I give you the information, what is to stop the company you are
referring too repeating the sale and making money from my work ?? ;)

** When I say "My work" I mean the considerable effort I put into gaining
the information.

Turbocabbie Nov 8, 2007 06:20 PM

nothing at all to be honest and its very likely that this would indeed be the case as the dashboard and data logger already supports other ECU's

I understand that you may not wish to part with knowledge or insider information and can totally respect that..

But heres another question could you make a dashboard and data logger read the stream yourself ?

ECU Monitor Enthusiast Nov 8, 2007 06:30 PM

UnseenMenace,

LOL, I already have 2 YEARS AGO and I demonstrated it at my local RS
group (I think Ryan saw it there) but dont have the time or resources to
make it into a final product and no one wants to put there money where
there mouth is and buy it from me.
(the product design to make and sell them selves)

What ever my history, My future is in designing products for others to make and sell.

Some people have made pitifull offers or pretended to show interest and failed
to follow through so at present its all gathering dust in my workshop. :(

Turbocabbie Nov 8, 2007 06:38 PM

ok i have no interest in creating a product which is suitable for the masses as im a mug and would get stitched up over it
I do have an interest in making this display read the data stream even if it costs me money and to be honest it would probably interest me more in having something a little exclusive and different.

would you be willing to get involved with this ? ( don't really need to know how it works, only that it does - although the geek in me is always interested in learning )

PM'd you the display details :top:

ECU Monitor Enthusiast Nov 8, 2007 06:40 PM

Paul, you have PM :top:

Turbocabbie Nov 8, 2007 06:51 PM

Thanks :top:

Stu @ M Developments Nov 8, 2007 10:23 PM

I dont know anyone who would be interested in supplying this information, sorry.
