Im self employed but do a good few hundred miles a day, mainly 300-400 and very often over 600. Imagine how i feel about it! Especially when im buying another van and maybe even two more.
The thing is, i cant just put my price up a couple of pence per mile, as the type of business im in is very competitive so id risk losing customers. So i have to just take it and lose a chunk of money every month, the more it rises the more i lose.
LPG is the way forward for me. Id save loads, but then again it still rises just like petrol and diesel.
Another reason i cant increase my rates slightly is due to the number of other people offering to do it for peanuts in the first place. Ive lost many customers as it is due to loads of polish round my area who are willing to do it for pocket money, but thats a different issue altogether.

i am surprised there is not more hoo haa over the prices these days,
the government must think we like these prices and don't care paying
top whack, my near by pakistani garage owner with a petrol station charges 85p a litre for bio diesel, thats what i use, and he is well busy.
i have to phone before hand to check he aint run out as it sells so well.
if your doing big miles you have to look into bio

IMPORTANT INFORMATION.... YOU NEED TO READ THIS!!
right, vegetable oil is perfectly legal for road use and is easily converted for use in cars.
the easiest way to do it is either use a 50/50 mix with diesel, or use non kerosene based white spirit, 3ml every 1 litre of oil. if using the latter, its best to leave it for a week to break the oil down before using it.
if using second hand oil, its bedt to strain it through a 25 micron filter to remove all the bad bits.
now for the important bit:
YOU PAY NO TAX FOR THE FIRST 2500 LITRES USED, WHICH MEANS AT 40MPG, YOU COULD DO OVER 16,000 MILES TAX FREE!!!
there are articles on the net about this somewhere, do a google search for them
i hope this helps some people, as i only found all this out the other week

I was just going to say, those of you who have businesses just go to your local cash and carry and buy neat, clean veg oil in catering drums.
A lot of the more modern diesels need the oil to be thinner so it atomises properly, thats when you mix in the non-kerosene based white spirit.
But on older diesels just chuck it in.

just keep your eyes peeled for bio, i personally can't tell the differance
between normal diesel and bio exept for the price, oh and bio is enviroment friendly, so its worth while
imo the cheesy old petrol stations that sell red and kerosene usually
have a pump with bio, you could always get the yellow pages out and ring around for a supplier.
i buy it totally legally and get a recipt
and that bollocks about red being crap makes me laugh, my mate has
2 brand new lambo tractors every couple of years, and they run it no probs.
and if you get caught running veggie home brew or red its at least a £500
fine, one lad i know got done at a car auction by customs, and they were
going to seize his car if he didn't pay up there and then

Do you have a fuel account with a local oil supplier ?? They usually do deals for bulk buyers ?
I buy my diesel from one, and at the minute, they are 89p/l and thats with no account.
Apparently some brands of kitty litter can be used to remove the dye from red...never tried it myself though.
or as mentioned, the Thieving Gypsy Bastard types use acid to remove it...wont do your pump any favours though.
As for LPG....a few options.
big red propane cylinders are one, but perhaps awkward.
Getting an LPG tank at the house, for say your speedboats fuel supply, or LPG central heating ? generator ? then you wont have to pay the road duty on it, so it will get cheaper.
Obviously you would never then fill a car up from it

I know people who have used red for over 10 years, in cars from Rovers, to BMW's, to Mercs, Volvos etc etc and never a problem.
Even a lot of Taxi drivers too, van drivers.

Red diesel WILL NOT damage a diesel engine
#38
But of course a car dealer fearing a warranty claim, will use any excuse.
Imagine all those diesel engines in expensive machinery, trains, boats getting destroyed by that terrible red diesel
oh, it doesnt do them any harm....
And I bet more Taxi drivers etc, are using it that a lot of people think. I know Ive seen them fill up in their brand new Merc etc over here.
