Default Going to New York for my 30th

at the end of the month my fiancee and I are off to New York for 4 days to celebrate. Never been before are there any 'must see', 'must do' or 'must eats'?

Gotta do Empire State, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Times Square, Natural history museum, Central Park, Grand Central Station.

Ground zero aint really worth it, as ironic as it sounds their really is nothing their by thyat I mean no real memorial as such, just a time line of what happened on the day.

Go to Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square as their is some really cool memorabilia in their, really nice bar aswell.
Your missus will prob wanna go to, Tiffanys, Maces and Bloomingdales

4 days - you might be able to fit all the most touristy points of interest in

Start with Ground Zero and wander round the Financial district - you can go into the World Financial Centre building (next to where the World Trade Centre Building's were) Then take a walk down Wall St, see the New York Stock exchange, Trump Building etc etc. You'll end up at South Street, under the FDR (you'll recognise it as it's been in LOADS of films!) Visit the South St Sea Port, and take a wander up (north) along the water front - very nice - and you'll get some classic views of the Brooklyn Bridge. You have to walk back into town a few blocks, but if you do, you will find the end of the Brooklyn Bridge, and walk across it - it's so worth it, as some AMAZING views!

Of course you have Central Park in the middle of town, take a good half day to walk round that, visit the in park zoo, that sort of thing. Also Columbus Circle (where the entrance to the park is) has some good shopping, specially the two Warner Bros towers...

In between all that is Madison Sq Garden, and virtually next to that is The Rockafella Centre. Bout $20 gets you up to the observation deck (called Top Of The Rock) which is good as some good pic opportunities up there, and NO QUEUES!!! Tanka walk south a few blocks and then go up the Empire State. Don't bother going to the 102nd floor - it's not worth it! Tiny observation room ,and it's inside so rubbish. Stick to the 86th (eighty something floor anyway) and you can go outside on the deck - EXCELLENT views - 25miles in all directions on a clear day, plus the highest point in New York City (obviously other than the 102nd, but thats rubbish lol)

From there, walk West to the very edge of the island, and walk down the side of the Hudson River, good views of New Jersey from there. If you're a little higher uptown when you go to the west side, you can get a 90 min boat tour for $23 from around 42nd street, which is ABSOLUTELY worth it (one of the best things I did) as you get a REALLY good native new yorker giving a runnign commentary and will tell you LOADS about the city and it's buildings, how it came about etc.....

When you get off, stay on the west side and carry on down south, take in the Meat District (very "Soprano's" ) at 14th St. A little further down you hit the Battery Park City, a lovely little built up area along the Hudson, lots of benches, tree's with random chess tables and even pool tables just out on the sidewalk, free to use. Very quiet and nice place to be, floow that round the the south point of the island and you hit Battery Park itself. Also another very nice inner city park. You can get the boat trips from here to go to Ellis Island and Liberty Island.

Aswell as all that, you have 5th Avenue shopping, and 7th Ave which crosses 6th Ave at Times Square. Very cool up there.

Macy's and JC Penny are at about 24th St I think, worth a look...

There's loads of these little gardens dotted about the place that are lovely little places to take a seat and watch the city go by. One is Washington Sq Garden in the school district (right by NYU) which is very nice. Round the corner from that is City Hall.

Metropolitan Museum of Art - I never went Neither did I get to the American Museum of Natural History, tho I did see it, I was gonna go in when I came out of Battery park, then I discovered the Battery Park City up the side of the Hudson and forgot all about it Give them two a go...

The UN building is uptown on the East side, worth a look if in the area, and near there is a MASSIVE United States Post Office, which ins't a touristy thing, but is pretty cool in itself cos it's pretty much a city block by itself!

Me personally, I just spent the whole of my days walking around random streets and I loved it that way as you got to see SO much. Take a walk through China Town - little bit daunting, but hella cool - even the MacDonalds and HSBC in China Town have chinese writing on their outside signs!!!!!

Ride the subway - don't worry, it's perfectly safe despite what the films suggest (and a lot cleaner than you'd imagine, judging by the movies) and get a cab somewhere - just to say you've done it!

Hope some of this is a help!

Strwaberry Fields is a "in memorium" to Lennon, he was actually shot outside Central Park as he entered the Dakota (the apartment block he lived in) in the Upper East Side....
