The 106s were always acknowledged to have good handling ( whatever that means to different people ) - the Rallye was never the fastest hot hatch, but like you say fun to drive.

Just think it's amusing the way the E30 M3 has gained icon status over the years............from the same journos who placed it behind a Sierra when both were new

people seem to forget that most cossies are now gettin on for 15-20 years old, a lot of cars are still on thier original bushes and suspension - no wonder they handle like shit, with all the wear and play in tcas, bushes, bearings etc etc then they WILL drive horrid! The difference a steering rack made to my mates 4x4 saff was amazing, the steering went from what felt ok anyway to pin-sharp

The minimum would consist of poly bushing the car, the same suspension I have, 6° rear beam, adjustable TCAs (consisting of new Ford TCAs modded, not the cheap aftermarket ones that seem to last five minutes), plus full geometry set-up and including fitting.
Mike,

On a 2wd Saff thats only used on the road, where would you stop?

It already has 6° rear beam, koni shocks, ahmed/leda springs (fast road ones), and polybushed throughout.

Would you get adjustable TCA's and leave it at that for a road car?

Also what tyres do you reccommend for road use?

The rear beam stops the car from understeering, as explained in my suspension article that I did for Fast Ford (available through their back issues department - just speak to Simon or Dan ).

Mike, have you got the Adrenalin frame connectors?
Yes

what has yours set you back in total if thats not rude?
Yes I am running coil-overs. As has been said, the suspension set-up is identical on all Cosworths. As to how much have I spent? WAY too much . Do I regret it? Sometimes when I think what I could have had, that is until I drive the Escort and obliterate all my dream cars on track / Ring etc. The grass always appears greener on the other side, the reality is not always so, and I have yet to drive a car that I would sell the Cossie for . I'm actually nervous of driving Michael's GT3 RS, for two reasons. Firstly, I will be disappointed if it doesn't live up to my expectations, as most cars I have driven haven't done (so not driving it means I can believe it to be as good as they say, as driving my car spoils you for anything else - so I still have a car to aspire to). Secondly, if it is as good as they say, I will have to sell everything (including my soul to the devil ) to afford even a 996 GT3 RS.

What you have done is where I would stop for a road car . The only thing I would do is fit the three-door hubs and TCAs. It makes the steering more nervous, but turn is hugely improved.

No idea. You would have to do some back to back testing to confirm that. I put mine on just before the engine was done, and then didn't drive the car for a few months, so it is hard to notice any definitive improvement.

Mike, do you use front roll centre adjusters, or does the rear beam negate the need for them?

The front roll centre adjusters are not safe (just ask Paul Eggleton ). I'm a little reluctant to advise on how I am sorting this, as I don't want anyone else to have the same advantage as me . I need some of my handling mods to remain secret . Suffice to say the mod I am about to carry out improves bump steer and improves the roll centre .

Next you'll want all my beauty secrets .
