crashed my car at the ring
i went to the nurburgring a few weeks ago and ended up writing my car off which is not a cheap thing to do at the ring(£1000 for the barrier and to have the car towed off)just glad that it wasn't the cosworth that ended up like this as that is what i have taken on the previous 2 trips.
it was completley my own fault i was pushing the car hard as i have done around 40 laps so know the track quite well but i lifted at a bend called wipperman at around 90mph and ran out of tallent and could not correct the slide so ended up hitting the barrier hard

Exactly the same as what happened to me in my Quadra @ the same corner last year except it was damp - I only glanced the barrier as the car had more or less straightened up by the time I made contact with it - didnt really do much damage to the car either just a scrape down the doors & rear quarter and a smashed indicator & headlight - didnt do any damage to the barrier either!!!
I still to this day dont know why the back end stepped out like it did as I didnt lift off - only thing I can put it down to is I possibly moved onto a wet part of the track & I had 3 people in the car which tends to upset it I have found!!!
Never mind tho....cars can be replaced - least you're ok!!!

next time i will get proper track insurance cos that covers the cost of the barriers as well.
tegs do snap like a bitch and when they do you are usually going bloody quick cos they handle very well, i thought i had got used to this but think i lifted just as i came over the brow of a hill and it just let go more than i was expecting it was a split second reaction and if i had kept it planted i probabley would have made it round.shame cos it was a nice car and i will definately get another one cos they are awsome and there is no way im risking the 3dr over there again that can stick to track days were there is some decent run off.

cheers for that mate but i have put in many sub 9 second laps in at the ring in that car which is not bad going and if you push hard you run the risk of crashing i was the 1st to admit that i was at fault but if that was at any other track it would have just been a harmless spin but you have no run off at the ring and many great drivers have crashed there that is why it has such a reputation

Yes mate, many great drivers, including one very talented (not to mention gorgeous) guy in April 2006
I present to you, my 325i
you are MUCH better than me though I cant even manage sub 9 seconds on the quarter, let alone the ring

Wasnt even going very quick round aremberg then by the look of it either, so when he came off, the others certainly had no chance!

thats the thing with track driving without track insurance, it can get costly. but whats the point of having a track worthy car without taking it to the tracks to have a proper drive in it. much better than racing round the roads insted
hopefully you can cope with the money loss and get back on the tracks asap

He didnt crash on a track though? He crashed on the ring.
My insurance paid for the damage to the road and to my car when I crashed there.

Some insurance policies have small print to rule out cover for the 'ring, but without actually mentioning it by name. Just read your policy very carefully, and you may be lucky. Because it's not timed, and because it's technically a public road some companies will pay out if you have an 'off' there.
Incidentally I noticed that my Flux policy includes a sentence that means that I'm not covered "in or on restricted areas of airports or airfields" wonder how many times they were stung before introducing that exclusion?

The ususal line has always been "not covered on derestricted one way toll roads" or something along those lines, but the ring actually has a speed limit in places so that doesnt apply as far as im aware.
A lot of the stuff that insurance companies put in about "exclusions" are only for the comprehensive element of your policy, they would be illegal if they tried to enforce them with regards to the third party.
