Took a test drive in one of these this afternoon, 3.0 with the 6 speed box, was very impressed very nice note and decent handling for a 220 bhp front driver.

I was seriously considering buying one but then seen the old saphs eyes fill up with tears in the car park

I could still well be tempted to part with the sierra and go for one of these Mondies, what do you peeps reckon?

most have more than 220 just chuck a K&N and you will be talking 240 bhp with all the toys

The only disavantange is its FWD.

Very good point mate, it obviously felt a lot slower, If I got rid of that shitbox XR3 Maybes I could keep the cos and buy an ST220, Christ I hate deciding whether to buy cars, with the options ill have added it would come to just under Ł24k which is an expensive fookin mistake if I dont like it I think the mondie would still surprise a few though no ??

Sorry to piss on your fire but,

This ST220 had a K&N cone filter made up from an Escort Cossie and not a panel filter, as i said before cone filters for 220 do not not exist and a panel filter would not give that much improvements.....

Mate, I like ST's. I use to own a ST200 but have now got an esc cos. My works car is an ST220 that I get to drive very quickly, well it is a traffic car so I suppose I should.

Have to say I do like the ST220, but they are not that quick off the mark, once up and running they are useful. But my god they are thirsty, they make me esc cos look cheap to run!

I would think long & hard before buying one, I would not want it as my own car cos its not quite exciting enough for Ł24000 and it would cost that much in petrol if you used it properly. The brakes are abit 'wooden' as well but I like the handling.

Just my thoughts.

Hi there i can talk from previous experiance i have owned one for 9 months then sold it to stop me from losing money!!!!!!!! if you look in fast for on the PTS rolling road shoot out mine was the 242.2bhp ST220.

They are great cars, And yes to those who dis-belive 22.2bhp from a cone filter and GOOD cold air supply!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to make my own induction kit but shows it works. great car though except the awesome depreciation it suffered............

mine was a bit special only because i think i was the 1st to modify it!!!!!!! i sent photo's to fast ford/perf ford nobody wanted to know.

Now all i see is people asking questions about them how to do this how to do that and the mag's answer we dont know anybody who's done it!!!!!!!!!

Well mine had 19" wheels on, was lowered a further 35mm (and no-body makes springs yet for them) and No they weren't cut

all sorts done they go really well!!!!!! fuel aint that good on them as is the problem with wind noise from front screen and nearside doors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so be aware!!!!!!!!

apart from that Cars Top!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

id have another!!!!! just id pay the nearer Ł10k price for one that way i wont lose much money compared to the list being 23k and 9 months later and 13.5k miles Ł15.400 .

But il be honest not as much fun as my saph!!!!!!!!

What they like for everyday driving and ragging round the streets?

The thing is ive had the saph for a good 9 years now and since I bought it its grew up a lot, especially with a cage in the back (not very practical, but safe ) weve always got the wifes zafira turbo for carting the youngins about, but itd be nice to have my car where you can fit everyone in comfortably instead of driving a minibus!!

Option 2 was to take the saph off the road for a bit, and ground up "restore" it and buy an ST220, But im still in two minds because nearly an even no of people have said "go for it" and the others have said "dont, keep the cos"

Its a fookin hard decision

Yeah, most leave the factory with 230ish bhp. More than happy with mine - a solid silent ride if you just want to cruise, nice and fast with a good engine note if you put your foot down. Excellent spec too, loads of little things most people don't know about, and a good stereo (someone mentioned this further up) if you don't pick the sat nav option. Totally different car to a Cossie, as it's meant to be, fast and refined rather than in your face....

The petrol doesn't bother me - i get a solid 25mpg, and wouldn't have bought a 3.0L if that was a worry!!

A very quick car if you know someone who can get the revised Ford Black Oak management with no top end limiter as well - some of the blokes at work have reported very high speeds, i'll be getting mine done once it's run in

I would wait to see how good BF is before buying though - the standard graph / setup is excellent, so not easy to improve...

I take it thats your st? In performance blue? Looove that colour, if I do buy one theyve got one on the site actually with the technology pack on, I wont be selling the cos OR trading it in

Yeah that's mine. Don't sell your cos, buy this as well - that's the best option I'm more than pleased with mine - it's awesome in a totally different way to a cossie - drive one everyday and you'll know what i mean - you can pootle along and blend in, or put your foot down get straight up to 150mph, all with the climate control on, the cruise control doing the driving for you, and soft tunes playing on the premium audio system, whilst relaxing in your variable climate electric leather Recaro, if you get my drift

Dannfire - The six speed phase 2 cars have a 155mph limiter, as per the European 'gentlemens agreement' between manufacturers, but some of the blokes at work in calibration have a 'fix' for it, as well as a slightly different map that hasn't been released. I've heard, but not seen, of some high proven speeds, but i won't say until i've seen proof, or i've tried it myself

Rudey - the ST TDCi is a great car too, i thought about it when getting my 220, but it's just not quite the package that the 220 is, which is deliberate as we wanted to keep the ST220 as the company flagship car

St tdci looks a good bet 400 nms of torque at peak boost or wait for the 200 bhp 2.7 twin turbo diesel to follow.The 3.0 is a nice drive but very thirsty as already mentioned.Sounds like a direct quote from autoteam Gaz,are you talking about the latest w.d.s calibration.

The 2.7L twin turbo Lion V6 will not be used in the current Mondeo. A quote from what? Not sure what that is mate. No it's not a WDS calibration, it's a one off non public calibration, being used by some of the other blokes at Dunton, and from what i hear, a couple of the lads at the Southampton plant too. There won't ever be a WDS calibration without the top end limiter because of what i mentioned earlier

That was what i was thinking mate(And the warranty implications that go with rev limiter removal).Autoteam the Ford company internal mag for all Masters trainees.The mention of the 2.7 Jag engine into the mondie was in autoteam two months ago,which Mondie who knows.Bob saunders didnt know when i asked him. So is that an unreleased tech cal then?

Yeah - i wouldn't ever use a rev limiter remover however, that's their for a purpose! - it's just the 155mph limiter removal, a different map, torque limiter removal (wouldn't have that however as i like my gearbox lol) I actually work for Ford Mo Co, so we don't get that magazine, our internal mag is just called Ford News. Yeah the 2.7 Lion V6 is already in the S-type, and the new Landie Disco, and will be used by PSA as they're a customer for the engine. We've got it running in various other cars for test purposes, and i reckon there's a fair chance it'll be in a Mondy at some stage, probably the mk4.

Yup the cal i'm talking about will never be released, it doesn't exist if you get what i mean It was just done by some blokes in the calibration dept in their 'lunch breaks' and just a few Fordies are using it, like i said, mostly at Dunton and some at Southampton

Nah - just have your really thirsty RS, then get a diesel and tune that, so it loses all it's economy and is thirsty as well - we've got a few years left until it all runs out

I have worked in the trade for mearly 20 years, 14 years with Ford dealers its interesting especially now we have some decent cars in the range.

As long as you buy a TDCi, you'll get a great car

Just avoid the 1400/1600 diesels, as they're PSA, and are just ok, not brilliant. They were part of the deal/payment for the Lion V6 that they're a customer for. The Mondies etc using the Ford TDCi lumps are awesome
