PC Prob. FAO all pc boys, or Mark_S1
PC crashed so i decided to re install. Now bearing in mind, im no PC neville.. it wont install from my XP CD
it says the hard drives cannot be found
can anyone help?

when it boots to the Bios screen is you HD listed?
Press the "Del" key when it's at the black screen and look in the bios. If it's not your HD my be FCUK'd

does it register the drvies on the first 5 seconds of booting???
is the ard drive light on ata all???
can you hear the hard disk spinning??? hard to tell though cos of fan
did you alter anything in cmos/bios after crash and before inserting cd????

Dave,
Didn't you go Serial ATA in the end?
If so, that will be why it can't see the disks as Alan says. XP needs adriver installing to recognise the controller and drives.
I can take a look if you like
, but you can probably sort it easy enough without the hassle of bringing it in if you've got SATA hard drives.

cheers guys.. exactly as a thought.. all over my head 
mark, Its no prob, i could bring it in and leave it with you for a week or so if you dont have time? Just see if you can load up XP on to it and office.. ohand any other goodies you may have

just press F6 when the XP install begins (when it asks for F6 to install a device driver), and put the SATA Raid driver disk in, and you're done.

you will need the disk specific to your motherboard (all tho most use a silicon image SATA setup) you will have got the disk in the box with your motherboard

Dave - the SATA controller should have come with a floppy disk when you bought it, so that'll be the one you need. If you know the make and model you'll be able to download one off the web.
If you wanna bring it in that's fine.. shouldn't take anywhere near as long as a week as long as nothing's physically busted. Just depends how busy i am
