My Fast Ford column... discuss please.
So far during my time with Fast Ford magazine i have covered the following topics in some depth:
Turbocharger sizing.
How does a big turbo make more power than a small one with teh same psi?
Turbocharger compressor maps.
How to read and understand them properly.
Fuel pressure.
What goes wrong, how it works and what to keep an eye out for.
Boost controls.
How do they work and what different types are available?
Spark Advance.
What is it? Whats it for? why do we alter it and why is it potentially deadly?
Camshafts.
How they work and what difference they make to an engine.
Camshaft timing.
A guide to how it is done and how to understand the figures.
Engine management.
A very in depth three part series covering everything from the looms to the sensors and ecu itself and how each item actually works.
Cylinder heads.
The heart of an engine, but why? And how can it be improved?
Exhaust tuning.
Just a metal tube? Not at all... its crucial to your engines power!
Management mapping.
A very in depth 3 part series covering everything from the kit we use to the techniques we apply to the maps to improve them.
Anto Lag.
How it works and what its for. (Not quite a tech feature, more a product feature)
The top ten Cosworth problems and how to avoid them.
Fuel pump wiring, sensor errors, setup issues, its all in here...
Dynos. The truth.
How is engine power read? What types of dyno are there? How do they actually measure power? Its all here.
BHP and Torque. Whats the difference? (Not realeased yet.)
BHP sells cars. Torque wins races. True or not? Read on...
Some time ago i asked for suggestions as to what to write about that would interest you and i have now covered 90% of them, so i am again asking for your input as its pointless me writing about stuff that interests ME as it wont be ME tahts paying to read it...
Remember, i dont know everything, far from it, but i just may know enough about your topic to cover it in enough detail tha it interests people so lets hear your suggestions if you can spare me the time please.
Finally, i hope you are all enjoying the articles and maybe getting somthing out of them other than toilet paper.

Ah yeah, was thinking that was for redline, but that was something else.
Well, anyway, Stu has the chance for more detail in his colum and could do it YB specific perhaps.
(trying to get out of this hole by digging but its not working, LOL)

the only one i've read was the "truth about dynos" although wrote a bit technical (cos i'm dim) i felt it very valid and when i asked at a R/R day i was at the operator said "u cant always/mostly dont match"............(5252rpm crossover)..............i knew then it was going to be a bad day................the only thing i could say is...not everone knows the technical aspects as well as an engineer,..(i admit this not like most who pretend to know) so abit more "commen jargen" would be nice......but as usuall u do know ur stuff......................

Thanks for your input evereyone, most of your suggestions are allready pencilled in for the next series, but keep them coming, you never know what your suggestions might lead too.
I really cannot wait for this one, I look forward to is as it's something that has confused me since I heard about torque.
Benni.
Should be out on the shelves this week i think pal, please let me have any feedback you think appropriate.

Yo Stu - I no longer buy Fast Ford or any other car mags however i felt compelled to post up that I think you are doing a great job. Covering technical aspects like you have mentioned must be a real bonus for the car mag especially when compared to some of the more limited articles on "check how big ma wheels are bruv" etc - its a different league of effort and technical expertise being shared with car enthusiasts

Team HOTHOT!
What about something along the lines of diesel tuning Stu - there are plenty of hot diesel Ford's out now (Mondeo ST-TDCI to name but one) and their owners will surely enjoy information on how to get the best from the new petrol

So if XYZ Motorsport sell you a pair of BD16's but dont say what they are, then those are "secret cams"
The reason behind which of course is:
a) to charge you over the odds for something you could have got elsewhere
b) to make it sound like you are getting something you couldnt have got elsewhere
c) so people can grow their internet cock by an inch when they post their spec up

Yeah, a Diesel one would be awesome
Covering the normal remaps, but also how to go a step beyond that with bigger turbos and intercooler etc

The really taboo subject of YB port sizes / shape and the effects on BHP / torque / power band would be really interesting but I don’t know if we can expect a working (i.e. money making non retired) tuner to give away their hard earned secrets Must be a tricky position for any technical writer.
Same goes for the YB build guide (although I would love to see it), if it doesnt tell you everything then it could be taken out of context.
