That's not the follower thats ripped out, its the Rocker Stud.

I've never had one do that, but it isn't uncommon.

Not sure if it can be welded/rethreaded or heli-coiled/time-serted, in any case, I imagine it's really a head-off job to do it properly, so might be best to find a good second hand head.

ive known it to happen once ,when using the tool to replace valve stem oil seals, with the head on.

the tool bolts to the same location as the rocker one you have pulled out ,but has the force of the valve spring against it ,and one pulled out on a mate a few years ago.

check the lifter as its normally at a point where it has pushed through the retaining collar.
don't want you to spend out on getting it helicoiled for it to happen again ...
at tony said easy to do in situ

You need the Helicoil kit for replacing an M8 thread. Go to your local engineering supplier or Cromwells etc and talk to them.

Usually comes as a complete kit, drill bit, tap, inserts etc and costs around Ł30-Ł40.

Firstly, its THREAD, not FRED. This is Fred (in a dress).....

Now we have that one cleared up, I still think it will need to be heli-coiled. That stud is under an immense amount of strain and needs the full length of thread to give it a chance to stay in. If you don't, you risk another failure.
