reliability of a GT series turbo
as above, a few people have told me that the bearings are held in place by a plasticy cage that can distort under extreme heat, thus killing the turbo Do you have to allow them to cool for longer? (leaving car to idle longer after a good run)
whats the score with warrenty etc....

PassionFord Post Whore!!
I know they are developing a metal cage for the bearings now, there was an article on this in Banzi magazine, it only seems to happen on high powered engines, well so they say

have a chat with turbo technics....they love them
seriously though, it is held in with a plastic cage....but so hard, that it would take massive amounts of heat to distort...cant remember what its made from off the top of my head...
same as any turbo...
treated right, they ll last forever

GT series turbos do have an issue with std the bearings when used at high boost or with antilag! But Tommy Field at FMS uses a differant bearing setup which can cope with 2.2 bar of boost and antilag! He uses one on his WRC ESCORT which is driven very hard!!!

I know Mark runs them with that kind of boost and Anti-lag, don't think he's had that many issues
