Didnt see any ford lads get anywhere except stevie turbo in his vauxhall engined granada.

RST boys seem to be a no show more or less, saw one red one on the handling and that was about it

Vauxall lads pretty much romped home as a team in FWD, but drag 1st place went to that really cool golf that does 10s on slicks, he ran a 11.69 IIRC

We got
3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th in the drag best times of the day
2nd, 3rd, 4th in the drag finals

As far as im aware we also won the top speed, but the results arent in for that yet as the printer broke.

Highest time at the point it broke was 163 from Russ in the astra, but Speccy went about 10mph beyond that in his tigra, so hopefully that got recorded but just wasnt printed.

There was a red Corsa there chip and it sounded like no other. As if it sucked half the worlds air up as it went.

That was Phil Sutton's, its on an external wastegate with a screamer pipe, the Tigra doing 11s also sounded mental!

Not really a RST sort of event it seems, not to worry, im sure lots of them will do really well next weekend at ford fair in the "polishing" and also in the "talking about how fast your car is" categories

That red one seemed the only RST there with the black stickers. There was all sorts of Vauxhalls there. Give it a week and all the ford owners will climb out the wood work again.

Oh, I realise this, the only day of the year the vauxhall lads ever do better than the RST lads is on the day of the event itself, the rest of the year when it comes to talking about how great they are going to do and how much power they have etc, the ford boys have us licked, they have had 20 years of talking up their cars and we just dont have the experience to compete, so have to settle for just doing well at the event itself.

I seen a ford owner climbing out of his car with the John wayne style walk and he had a laptop in a pouch to the side of his pants. Everyone scatterd in fear of what he had on it. 700bhp.... More? Nobody knew and thought it was safer to just go home in fear of embarresment.

They did some good times, but couldnt make the finals due to reliability issues.

In the times posted during the day:
2nd was that CRX Turbo
4th was andy nichols

But they couldnt make the finals as they werent still running, so both got replaced by a red corsa (the red corsas were in 5th and 6th)

Andy Nichols still got a place though by proxy, as he was the guy who mapped the tigra that beat him to third place in the times and got 2nd in the shootout!

The red RS Turbo of sitech racing (sp) I saw it in the pits with some engine trouble, and from its spec i wouldn't of thought it would of given a bad time, as said b4 its getting the power down the vauxies can do so well.

It was a real dissapointment as a ford man to think that there were 3 fords running from what i saw sorry 5.....

mk 1 White RS2000
mk 1 Orange Mexico
S2 Red RS Turbo
Stickered up 3 door (Lee Cattermole I think that was his name)
and a Grey RWD Sapph

There are a lot of fooking powerfull and top spec cars out there but why r they not shown off to their full potential???

I did see in the parking though a series 1 with cage and 4 x 4 running gear....had a pf sticker on it saying "SWIFTY" or something.....fucking ace motor!!!

So, did Simon not run?

Also, Lee is usually a reliable runner posting good times. How did he do?

Cheers Chip

Fair do's to Nichols hes been up there for every TOTB.

Hopefully we will be back next year with Red 200 bubble for handling. If AndyR gets his arse into gear he could have a very good 1/4 mile weapon again.

I think a lot of it comes down to the way the different teams chose to talk about their spec.

For example, this nova van:

Which was (until sadly a dead turbo the night before during final mappingsaw him having to fit a smaller one and then totally remap it again to work on the smaller turbo overnight the night before the event)
Massive turbonetics turbo, steel internals, custom plenum and TB etc, running 2.5 bar of boost at 9000rpm, making an easy 600bhp no doubt.

If you look on the entry list his power is down as:
300bhp+

all the other vauxhall lads did the same, not one of them claimed a figure anymore than "300+" despite the team average probably being well over 400 even including the non turbo car, they dont bother with dyno plots to prove their cars are quick, they just map them and use them and let the results talk instead, the ford lads all like to big their specs up on the net etc and go on about figures, which makes it looks like they are more impressive than the vauxhall lads for spec, but in reality its just that they talk about it more!

Christian,
I saw Simon running on the handling, but did not see any times for him on the leader board, which means he failed to get in the top 20. Mind you, he would have had to have beaten your time to do that, as even the slowest car that featured in the top twenty did 170+mph.

They did not have the facility to segregate the cars into groups on the computer screen, so this was just listed in fastest times set order only.

He didnt place in the top ten for the quarter when I checked the FWD sheets.

Our astra finished 11th, and he was obviouslly well after that as I didnt even notice his name on the list so it must have been WELL into the bottom half of the table.

Yeah they spend there time building a good engine, setting the car up, driving it, and not spouting bullshit.

I saw SAS run on the handling circuit and it did sound and look very impressive launching althougth it spun the wheels big time. By the end of his run i dont know if he backed off or was just slow and it didnt look as if he was trying and did something in the region of 49s...

I managed to get to 168.6 mph over the 1 mile run, but for some reason the boost was dropping from the mapped upon 18 psi to 14-15 psi.

Weird thing was, the engine was sitting at around 8000 rpm in 5th gear as I crossed the line andaccording to the ratios I have it should be more like 180 mph.

I will need tolook into this, as I was a bit dissapointed!!!

Got 6th on the handling with only 1 run with a 43.something second run and a 12.3 @ 126 mph with wheelspin in 1st, 2nd & 3rd gear.

Regardless of me using the R888's or the BFG's, I couldn't get it to hook up off the line!

Fun all the less!!!

Cheers to those who said hello and well done to the winners!!!

Thanks

Dave

No, its an occupational hazzard with not knowing what you are doing with nitrous cause your dont understand enough about it.
Same reason some people should steer clear of turning their boost up if they are ignorant to that too.

Here you go bud...

Was a bit pissed off to be honest as I only planned to do one top speed run (in case something went pop with the sustained stress on the vehicle).

I did this on my first run (the first run of the whole event) and they didn't record it...grrrrrr.

It was such a buzz though that I went back to it at about 2.30 PM and did around 5 more top speed runs.

No leaks, no issues, just the boost falling off???

Gotta love those SR20 engines for realiability!!!

The best on the day for the FWD class was the 10 second Golf which ran 169.1 mph.

SO CLOSE!!!

Shame it's all over now...

I was heading down the back straight at Knockhill on Monday night and was already doing in excess of 120 mph, and for some reason the car's back end just snapped out and sent me towards the tyre wall.

I hadn't touched the brakes and was still on throttle, so why the car became so unsettled at the rear I don't know.

The car hit the tyre wall still doing silly speeds at the n/s/f corner, and it kind of bounced along the tyre wall in a spin until it came round again to hit the front end, when it dug in and lifted the rear end clean off the ground.

DAMAGE:-

Both the intercooler and the radiator have been punctured.
The exhaust manifold is cracked.
The entire exhuast system is bent backwards.
The mass air flow meter has been cracked.
The o/s/f tyre has a large cut into the sidewall.
The front crossmember is completely destroyed and both front chassis legs are bent.
Both front wings are destroyed.
The bonnet is, well, twisted...LOL!
The front bumper is still at Knockhill somewhere, presumed well ######ed.
The Kenlowe fan that was attached to the front of the intercooler is also missing, presumed well ######ed as well.
I can't open the passenger side door.
Both rear panels are caved in.
The rear bumper is broken.
The boot is also caved in and cannot be opened without force.

I was taken away in an ambulance after I got home last night. I had felt sore as I had gotten out of the car, but upon returning home, I was barely able to get out of the car and my neck and head were killing me.

I also had pins and needles in my left arm and right leg, which is still there this morning.

Nothing broken, just bad whiplash and concussion. A number of cuts and bruises and sore all over really.

Part from that, the only other thing is a broken heart. I've dedicated 2 years of my life to the car, and it's been taken away from me in a second.

Thanks to those who made sure I was alright, but the majority didn't seem to give a #### last night, especially the group of guys who were laughing while standing next to my wife and she was in tears not knowing if I was dead or not.

Here are some pictures of the damage...

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted!

Cheers

Dave
