Jim Galbally 24-09-2004 01:35 PM

is the mk4 granada (scorpio) fords biggest flop?

compared to all the other cars in its age group, this one seems to be the one worth bugger all money... n they were quite dear brand new too

i mean you take a 1995 1.3 escort and its worth more than the top of the range bug eyed scorpio!

do you think that this was one of fords biggest flops?

Ginge ! 24-09-2004 01:39 PM

yeah it was jimbo hene why they stoped making it

there aint bad cars though as a guy on ebay has help his one at 150mhp for over a hour on the motorway and got 180 out of it and its standard enigine too so fook knows how ya never beat me in my fooked smokey cossie

oh and there are also the most powerfull v6 engine ever made and the most torque of any engine too

aint got a clue why ford only used em with a auto transmision though :?

Stavros 24-09-2004 01:39 PM

Ford probe is the worst ford i can think of

Tho Mk4 scorpios are well rare

Ginge the Ebay one is the older shape, Jimbos on about the bugeye ones you never see

Ginge ! 24-09-2004 01:40 PM

the porb cleaned up in the states though hence why they gave it to use :wall:

Nath 24-09-2004 01:42 PM

Deffo agree with Steve on the probe.

Who'd buy a car named after something a Dr sticks up your ass. Still on the plus side it made MX6 rear calipers a bit cheaper :DD:

Jim Galbally 24-09-2004 01:44 PM

probe wasnt exactly a ford tho was it, its a mazda with a ford badge stuck on it... lol

saying that you dont see many cougars about either...

Stavros 24-09-2004 01:46 PM

You know, i like the look of ST200 Cougars, they actually look decent, unlike Probes, shame they FWD

foreigneRS 24-09-2004 01:49 PM

i like the bugeye. wanna get me a 24v estate version. mint for the money. :top:

AlexF 24-09-2004 01:51 PM

Ford Corsair was ford biggest flop.

Alex

Jim Galbally 24-09-2004 01:59 PM

that an old one alex?

Ginge ! 24-09-2004 02:01 PM

er yeah, sixtys

Ginge ! 24-09-2004 02:02 PM

cost about half a crown and 6pence

foreigneRS 24-09-2004 02:04 PM

the kids of today

when you turn up at cruises in the goonybus (mk5 cortina estate with stg 3 cossie engine), all the kids are like "what's that heap?". at one time, the cortina was britains top selling car for a good few years, and now the youth of today don't even know what they are. very sad. :(

AlexF 24-09-2004 02:07 PM

Ford cortina use to sell so well it made up the same figures for market share as ALL ford models combined do today

Alex

Ginge ! 24-09-2004 02:21 PM

yeah i remember me cousins cortina,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, fook me was that tacky

It's Czech Mate 24-09-2004 02:30 PM

I like the estate ones....seem a bargain to me for what you get :top:

JohnnyB 24-09-2004 02:37 PM

and the bug eye 24V have a more powerfull engine

MadMac 24-09-2004 02:50 PM

Well I'm thinking of ditching the 3i for a Scorpio Cosworth.... wanna luxuary cruiser for my business trips :top:

Nick-T 24-09-2004 03:22 PM

The facelift Scorpio Cossie was actually a really nice car to drive.
I quite like the way it looks

I'd have one but they're bastids when they go wrong…and they do go very wrong.

Jimboxr4x4 25-09-2004 10:07 AM

The 24v scorpio cossie (never actually badged as a cosworth though) are wicked motors. My brother has a 1995 (not bug-eyed) one and its really comfortable, good brakes (same as standard escort cossie), air con, electric everything. Even with the autobox they are still quite nippy and will still embarass most modern hot hatches. After driving my xr4x4 which is a lot stiffer the scorpio feels so comfortable with the added bonus that the XR feels like a go-cart when you drive that next.

Get one they are great!

Jim Galbally 25-09-2004 10:23 AM

jimbo, thats all well and good but they just seem to be so undesireable

Jimboxr4x4 25-09-2004 10:33 AM

Yeah, I can see why they aren't as desireable as sierra cossie but they still look good in my opinion with the optional RS kit. The performance ain't blistering compared to a cossie or scooby but it is still a fast motor.

Here is my brother's one:

Jim Galbally 25-09-2004 10:38 AM

also mate im refering specifically to the later bug eyed ones... you still see a few mk3 granadas about and they seem to be priced similar to their later brothers

mark 25-09-2004 10:42 AM

the bug eyed 24v had lots of electric problem most of the dash bords had to be replaced at £600+

ford ealy lost loads when the built that car lol

Jimboxr4x4 25-09-2004 11:46 AM

Yeah don't like the look of the bug eyed one. Way too american for me. The mk 3 with an RS kit just a bit like a giant rouse sport kitted saph (just not quite as fast!).

But I still want one.
:D

Daveyraveygravy 25-09-2004 12:05 PM

I like em, it would have to be the later ones though coz the facelifted them and they looked better.

Very nice to drive, but don't forget Fords didn't want you to buy it over the Jag they had just released at the time, so in my eyes they made it a bit ugly on purpose. ;)

Oh and DON'T buy the 2.3L coz they love doing head gaskets and when that happens it fooks everything :wall:

Jimboxr4x4 25-09-2004 12:20 PM

My brother's has a custon stainless exhaust and big cone filter and it sounds pretty awesome. They look better with the RS kit on but not seen many of 'em about.

B19LRW 25-09-2004 08:55 PM
