Default Interesting Turbo and Inlet Layout

Very bizaree arangement, to me anyway.

I've detailed in one picture what I've found confusing on this particular engine.

I've never seen an arangement like this before. I understand the turbos would be on either side of the engine on a v-engine
twin-turbos. Just not on an inline engine.

I did wonder if it had a diametrically opposed head/valve design. But that doesn't really answer the question on the inlet in the middle.

Thanks.

Fiat/Lancias aborted GrpS rally engine.

600bhp@8000rpm, 400lbft, 1.8litres.

Rather than all inlet valves on one side, all exhaust valves on the other, that engine is aranged inlet-exhaust-inlet-exhaust etc etc, which is much better for lower and more even temps in the head, as well as making running 2 turbos a lot easier.

And yes, very bizzare/unusual, but clever.

You might like this too mate, awesome and rare to read such detials.

Ill add to this, has ANYONE got any knowlege (barring whats in the book them pics above is from) of the DPV "dispositif pre-rotation variable" system used on Renault and Pug GrpB cars in the 80s?

Fuck all on the net, a little in that book, but i wanna see pics of how it worked, the early ones were purely mechanical so obv not complex...

Very interesting

Wierd cam belt set-up as it doesn't go round the cams and the crank in one go...

probably something to do with the exhaust/inlet/exhaust/inlet Steve is on about...

That link there is very interesting. Cheers for the info, it's a different design but is quite a good one from what I can see.

I found some more infomation on that design in that book which some others may find interesting.

Does seem properly confusing at first, but if you take some time to look and understand it, it becomes clear to me.

Smit- No fancy reason really it seems, just chose to do it like that, if less stuff is running directly off the crank there will be less stress/drag on the bearings etc
