My First Ring Trip
http://photobucket.com/albums/0703/p...1/Ring%202004/
What an awesome weekend, met up with Mike R, Cossymad and Simon friday morning in Calais, followed Mike and got to the ring around 3pm. Met up wit the scottish lot. Nice to meet new faces and see some old ones .
Mike jumped in the back and gave me a guided tour on my first lap which was a scary experience. It is almost impossible to predict which way the road is going to go on at least half the bends so trying to get a good line is almost impossible.
There are white dots on the track to help pick out the turn-in points but it took me half a lap before I settled down and could actually pick them out.
We managed to get round in one piece after being passed by numerous bikes and porsches travelling what felt like 3 times as fast.
Mike then offered to take us out in Peggy. I'm not sure if it was his first lap of the weekend or not, but Feck me you could see he'd been round 70+ times even on shonky konis he put in a blistering lap and I'm suprised I didn't rip off the roof handle. My mate Russ was in the back clinging to the baby seat for dear life The antilag is also cool and you wouldn't think it was a t4.
I let my mate Russ do a lap in my car then it was time to find the B&B. this turned out to be 20minutes away which was a pain but it was a cool place run by a biker mad couple. We had dinner with the gang at the F1 track that nite which was cool, but we were shattered so drove off to bed.
Saturday morning I checked over the car. Had to adjust the exhaust away from the prop and I thought I'd buggered the steering column but it was a bit of grit stuck on the ring for the horn
Unfortunately they were racing in the morning so we couldn't get on, but it was just as cool watching. When we made it up to the carpark for the opening it was absolutely rammo with a massive queue to get on. It was also very hot, so we thought fuck it rather than try and park up we'll go straight out onto the track for a recce. Then out comes the video camera for a flying lap. Despite only going around 4 times, twice driving, I found I could remember sections and some decent lines started to come together. It also helped with Mike the day before showing what the car was capable of with all the supension an brake mods, and this boosted my confidence and I found myself braking later and chucking the car in a lot harder. Russ then did a recce lap and a flyer, then we called it a day. There was steam coming out of the bonnet at the end because it was so hot and we had to queue to come off the track because it was so busy. I also wanted to get the car home the next day.
Just being in the car park is an awesome experience, the cars are so cool and the people are so nice. There was lots of interest in the cossies which was also very cool. Car of the weekend for me had to be the Audi RS6+. Brand new driven by a cool british guy. He was keen to point out it was the "+" version and apparantly 480bhp The ring viper was the scariest thing. It passed us on our second lap like we were stationary twitching and flaming everwhere.
I now want a GT3 as there are soooo cool. Definately going next year, getting back in one piece boosts the confidence
Looking forward to the beds day next feb which should be easier to learn
me and martin(dumped) looking over the RUF. Owner came over and let us look over it. His son came over and apparently owns a Yellowbird! I didn't see it though.

That father & son with the Ruf's are the ones that were featured in Autocar a while back in the 0-100-0 contest & were also at TOTB3 then I would guess!?
