Yes ( I think- or they might have been an aftermarket option) has definatly been covered in classic ford.

I believe they used a ferguesen 4x4 system.

Rocking horse poo is rarer than these though....

Yes their was a system, I remember them being used in their Autocross Capris.
The cars were very quick, but the system was very un-reliable & often broke.

I like the way the cortina has all of a sudden developed Inner wings and a Mcphearson strut setup.

I thought that was the way they did it,considered it myself but the cost of a 4x4 uprated box was'nt worth the trouble

In the late 60's/early 70's ford made a limited number of mk1 Capri's for use in rallycross.
I think John Hill who runs Capri Club International was restoring one.

Found this article if you can translate it:

Quick translation,i think !!

4x4-Capris for Rallycross [Work on]
With at that time still recent autohaven named Rallycross the work inserted 1971 even two Capri 3000 GT 4WD (with Zodiac-V6-Motoren) into England between at the beginning of of 1969 and end in addition under Rallye Werksfahrer Roger Clark and its brother Stan Clark and supported the Semi Werksauto of Rod Chapman. The 4x4-Capris strong at the end well 250 HP (equipped with 3-l-Motoren, CAN to fuel injection, ZF-transmission and Ferguson all-wheel drive) had to fight initially with many „to teething troubles “, became however sometime so superior that they only five or ten seconds (4WD penalty - dependent on the respective racing course) after their opponents to start were allowed and nevertheless remained often victorious.
