Yes ( I think- or they might have been an aftermarket option) has definatly been covered in classic ford.

I believe they used a ferguesen 4x4 system.

Rocking horse poo is rarer than these though....

Yes their was a system, I remember them being used in their Autocross Capris.
The cars were very quick, but the system was very un-reliable & often broke.

In the late 60's/early 70's ford made a limited number of mk1 Capri's for use in rallycross.
I think John Hill who runs Capri Club International was restoring one.

Die am Ende gut 250 PS starken 4x4-Capris (mit 3-l-Motoren, CanAm-Benzin-Einspritzung, ZF-Getriebe und Ferguson-Allradantrieb ausgerüstet) hatten anfänglich zwar mit vielen „Kinderkrankheiten“ zu kämpfen, wurden aber irgendwann so überlegen, dass sie erst fünf oder zehn Sekunden (4WD penalty – abhängig von der jeweiligen Rennstrecke) nach ihren Gegnern starten durften und trotzdem oftmals siegreich blieben.
