Launch control works as folows:
We set an ecu rev limit of say, 3000rpm. This is activated by a switch on your dash.

When this switch is set, and you put the car to full throttle in Neutral, the ecu actively starts to retard the timing and adjust the fuelling to get the max amount of energy into the exhaust, whilst also limiting engine rpm. This has teh effect of bringing your turbocharger into a positive boost situation too.... so when you dump the clutch in......!!

Makes perfect sense, much easier than balancing car on clutch/handbrake to build boost prior to launch

my ST has that as a std feature, if you are not moving and the clutch is down, the rev limit is dropped to 3.5K so yuo can get away without a riduculious amount of wheel spin

Not unless you go for aggressive anti lag, no.
Heat is heat, and if you keep it sensible, you will be ok in my experience.

that sounds good as im sure a lot of people want anti lag but not fork out for the turbos me myself

would it be worth fitting a egr gauge to monitor the temps when anti lag is on?

Mildest ALS available installed and working fine. We Can achieve 0.9bar absolute at 1200rpm without the Full Penny ALS valve and using a standard throttle body. Will try the bigger ones tomorrow but thats damn good on a T4.

Nikola is writing in some extra safety features so you cant use it on a cold engine or cook your motor when its too hot. (We can turn these off if required of course) They will hopefully be complete tomorrow.

Need to make a WS program mod to go further with Launch control testing though, but Simons ETA for that is 10am Tomorrow morning.
Hi Stu,

First things first - I am not questioning your work for trying to start any bitching.

I seem to remember (but my memory is shit ) Mike R saying that AL wouldn’t alter the boost threshold of any given turbo, only reduce the lag.

If that statement is correct then how does a T4 do 0.9 bar at 1200 rpm ?

Defo watching this topic with interest as AL was something I originally wanted for the rush but ruled out when I decided on L8 / closed loop / coil pack etc.

Cheers,

WD

0.9 bar absolute - which is about -1.5psi (MINUS 1.5) on the gauge.

Ok, First Video is ALS.
This is activated by an On/Off dash switch.
It is shown here active at Idle, holding around 1600pm and generating, just under 1 bar absolute. Bear in mind this is on a T4 turbo and using one of our own modded ISCV's that STILL work just fine as idle valves. it is NOT using a modded throttle body or a poxy ALS weber valve that sticks and henerally act up cos they are crap.

It does of course work in a conventional manner when you change gear and has full safety programming such as time outs and temperature control in place to stopm you arming it at the wrong times.

We will be going further with this system using genuine WRC vbalves soon... but time is at a constraint at the moment, but this is a really great compromise as the vid proves.

The second clip is launch control.
This has a master overide switch installed and is then activated by a PTM switch that allows you fingertip control of teh launch. When activated on this car we have chosen 4000rpm as it is a T4 car and needs some airflow through it to make it effcetive, but we can run it at any RPM you like.

You simply floor teh pedal and hopld it there, and the wengine will come onto boost and stay there, held at the rpm level we set, aspitting and firing out generally quite offensive flames!!

You will see that it generates 10psi set as it is, but we can have up to 16 on this particular car, but it was deemed excessive due to being 2wd. Remember, this is a T4, not a little T3!!. LOL
