am i right in thinking if i put a new engine in an old car it wont need the cat as in goes by the car not the engine

if you can proove that the engine came from a car that didn't require cat's then you can put it in and not need cats

if your car didn't need need complusory cats when it was first sold then you can put whatever engine you want and it won't require cats

It goes on the age of the oldest either car or engine.

1972 car plus 2007 engine = pre cat emissions test

2007 car plus 1972 engine = pre cat emissions test.

The only difference is when the engine is older than the car YOU have to prove the age of the engine at M.O. t.
