To be honest, I can do without the dashboard/logging, etc... it's a pet project on which I have no intention on spending £££'s, if it can't be done for beer money, never mind, I won't bother and won't loose any sleep over it

That is the most succinct way of describing a cosworth I have every heard (and I honestly mean that!)

Any news on this interesting topic?
I wrote to AIM some time ago, as I was ready to give them the details on the L8 communication protocol, if they are willing to support it in their product (it's much easier for them than for us on L8/P8 side). No reply so far.
If anyone has some contact at AIM that I could address directly, that would be appreciated.
Regards,
Nikola

It is a shame that they havent got back to you - with your experience with the L8s, one would have thought that they could crack a straightforward interface pretty easily!
I have put this little project on the back burner till I get my engine sorted once and for all, but it WILL be revisited!

You are quite right, most probably this could be done for one or two man-days of work.
From me they would get a sheet, specifying L8/P8 serial communication specs (baud rate etc), and a protocol saying how the data requests are to be sent to the control unit, how the unit will reply and which equations to use to convert the values to real world units. I've had a few very serious customers - to bad they did not reply.
As I've sent my email to their general info@... address, who knows where it ended up. This is why I was looking for a direct contact.

Knowing my luck, AIM will do it and I would have wasted all this work

I was playing with the AIM dash connected to the laptop this week. The software and user interface is absolute class and so easy to use and configure everything.
Really looking forward to this and I think quite a few will go down this route once a product that simply connect it to a older weber ECU like the L6/L8/P8 is out there.
Did you get my note about the outputs? Is the product you are working on going to effectively give 2 datastream outputs?
1. The Pectel that already exists and connected to a monitor
2. A Motech that the AIM MXL can read
