Your qualified dad just sat around blaming maggie for his troubles (I bet he still does today!) instead of just getting on with it!

Lets get one thing right sunshine, my dad never 'Sat Around'. He worked all over the world to pay for my upkeep, and that is one of the main factors in my parents break up. So, I do appreciate that your family had to deal with hardship, and I do appreciate that Armed Forces men should be treat a damn sight better than they are. BUT that isnt what this argument was about. That woman is being made to look a heroine when the hardship that her poor decisions caused far, far outweigh the good things that she ever achieved.

Its late and I am going to bed!!

Leave you "maggie ruined our lifes" peeps to it.

May be an idea if the "maggie ruined our lifes" peeps go and do some research and find out what state the country was in before she came to power. Like it not from what I can gather she had a huge task ahead of her and overall pulled this country out of the shit.

Margaret Thatcher the greatest Leader since the war. She stopped the commie trade unionist in their tracks & gave this country a chance again.
Had the pleasure of meeting her & she aint nothing like she was portrayed.
Scargill & his ilk or Maggie that was your choice, sensible thinking people chose the Iron Lady.

Agreed, Thatcher did SO much for this country. Halted a trade unionist revolt in its tracks, and privatised a lot of industrys the Government were featherbedding.

We would be 20 years behind where we are now, with a HUGE trade deficit etc etc if it wasn't for her.

FFS take the blinkers off, and look at the bigger picture people!

Craig, I really think you should read more information about Maggie Thatcher before wishing her to die!

She took over after 5 years of struggling ineptitude by Wilson & Callaghan.

During 1978–1979, (under Callaghan) there were widespread strikes by trade unions demanding larger pay rises for their members, and the government struggled to cope. The strikes were a result of the attempted enforcement of the Labour government's rule that pay rises be kept below 5%, and began in private industry before spreading to the public sector; many of them seriously disrupted everyday life. Whilst the strikes were largely over by February 1979, the government's inability to contain the strikes earlier helped lead to Margaret Thatcher's Conservative victory in the 1979 general election and legislation to restrict unions.

Blair isn't fit to lick her boots!

Ill informed hyperbole diatribe.....

Before you all rant on about the evils of Maggie, I'm from Northumberland, my uncles were miners and were put out of work in '84 and had a terrible time.

BUT you'd have to be BLIND if you were a miner of that era and couldn't see what the UNIONS were doing to the country. British Leyland 3 day weeks, ridiculous socialist claptrap being pushed through loony left councils (which we still have a legacy of today unfortunately).

Come up to the North East and see how well Scargill is thought of up here these days. Sorry Maggie wasn't the problem, it was the loony left for trying to push through stupid 3 day weeks and thinking the government had a never ending supply of money.

Like all leaders Maggie certainly made some mistakes and some big ones and that!! but..........

she had bigger balls than any of the PM's we have had since, and i think the country would be in a much better state if we had someone of her calibre in charge now......not this weak sack of shit Blair who has destroyed this country and demolished our identity!!

All IMO of course!!

How is drug misuse a 20th century problem?

Every civilisation has been plagued by drugs since Mankind's beginning!

You are solely looking at Maggie's reign from a northern point of view - what about the good things she did achieve?

For example the London stock exchange… without her we wouldn't be a financial centre at all and generally the rest of the country does follow the wealth of the capital.

Now before you shout "southern" I was born in the south, I have lived in the north - HALF my family are from the north. So enough of this north/south bullshit thanks.

i think alot of folk out there hated thatcher and her attitude, until they saw what the new options are, spineless lying sniverling scum bags only out to look after them selfes, the country now is gripped by huge personal debt, one of the blokes with the biggest personal debt in this country is good old tony blair!!he is scum, wont do anything for the good of this country and wont give a straight honest answer about anything, cost hundreds of soliders there lives for nothing and put us all much more at risk over terrorism,he is playing with our saftey and national security,

following america into the middle east was stupid,he obviously knows nothing about vietnam,

we need a new leader that takes no shit, can talk properly, isnt up to his/her eyes in personal debt, isnt a closet gay (no offence to gays but running a country isnt a job for a homosexual),doesnt follow what bloody america does or says, has strong beleives and real opinions, will stem the imigration nitemare, close our borders and secure the country again, stop the dependency on foreign fuel, the uk could be 100% self sufficient in 10 years time if we tried.that should be our goal,

in fact fook it,VOTE FOR ME!!!!

I'm from the North, 80% of my family live in the North, but I still can be realistic to see the bigger picture. Or realise what could of been for us if she hadn't done things as she did!

IMO I think the North would be a much worse place to live if it wasn't for Maggie.

LOL soon as i seen this topic i knew it would be contreversial.

You think with me being from South Wales i would spit every time i hear her name. However Thatcher done a hell of a lot of good for this country! and yes some bad too.

However one fo the thing i admire most about her is the fact she had a backbone and stood 100% for what she belivied in. This is a leader and iUK needs another one like this. And at the moment does Cameron look stong enough? hell no. Brown does but erm im not sure.....

Being PM is one job if you dont mind not being popular. You will never please everyone.

TBH Phil i agree with, its a testimony (sp) to the economy that no one moans about it now, and rather does other things. So that is right, just a lot of other things is fooked up.

TF rally sport how woud we bee 100% self efficent on fuel?

And totally 100% disagree about immigration... Assylum seakers yes, but strategic imigration benefits this county also! I would want a points system in place like Oz imo.

if Thatcher had let those left wing militant wank splats get their own way this country would of been held to ransome fact!!

industries only die because they are not economicaly viable not because a government suddenly decides to shut them down, very niave and simplistic view

manufacturing has died a death in this country mainly because your average UK worker is a lazy, good for nothing and overpaid look at Rover they couldn't screw a car together even when their jobs DID depend on it there were so many warnings!!

Countries like Germany and Japan still to this day manage to manufacturer because their work ethics are completely different and they have the intelligence to understand that a good job done by them benefits their company which in return will benefit them, in this country its a good job done by me means I miss fucking neighbours

vast majority of people in this country need putting down in my opinion so we can start again, fucking hell I sound like hitler
