Default XR2 help, opinions and advice much appreciated.

When accelerating in my XR2 in mainly first and second gear the car will rev up but the road speed doesnt increase at the right rate for the revs, then if I back off slightly and accelerate again or sometimes on it's own it will start accelerating properly and pulling alot harder again if it's wet the car often starts to wheelspin when the power starts again. Also in second (not really tried it in any other gears) on each time I accelerate the speeds the car does at the same rev's varies. It also crunches sometimes when you put it in reverse but other times will select reverse fine.

Any idea what might be causing this?

Thanks for reading.

Stuart.

if acceleration is different to engine speed, its clutch slip, only thing is can be if its not wheelspinning.

Clutch slipping is actually what I thought it was. It's booked in to have a new clutch fitted on monday but I just wanted to check there wasnt anything else it could be before I spend the money on it.
