got a project mk4 cabby in a garage in town and the garage has no electricity or water, bought meself a 2.4kva generator, tried using my arc welder to run off it but not enough power , does a mig welder use less power? and if so which one do i go for gas or gassless?
any advice would be gratefull!
cheers in advance

always buy a mig with gas,,, never use gasless

you'll struggle to run a welder from that genny mate! normal gennys dont like the inrush current

I know a chap that actually did that

As Gareth said the gas mig's are much better as you can adjust the gas valve to suit your welding & the gasless wire doesnt come cheap either & tbh its pretty crap.

Ok for welding in windy conditions i suppose but thats about the only advantage

mig with gas is the way to go also use argon gas if u can get it co2 dosent give sutch good results.if u still want to use a arc welder try and find an inverter one as they draw a lot less current

you use Kva when talking about inductive loads!

use them both as the same unit mate (there or there about)
