155 MPH Limit Removal???

Hi peeps, anyone have a good idea how this is done, i know its done electronically, but is it down to the ECU itself??

Thanks peeps.

COMEDY DAN 06-01-2007 10:52 PM

The limiter is in the map.

MikeyXR2i 06-01-2007 10:54 PM

Re-map needed to remove?

COMEDY DAN 06-01-2007 10:56 PM

Not a remap as such, but the map needs bringing up on an laptop program to remove limiter.

So not the cost of a remap to do.

BMW or Mercedes??

MikeyXR2i 06-01-2007 10:58 PM

Nah Subaru Limited to 155, would like to remove it, but i wasn't sure how it was done.

What the hell would you want to do that 4 mate

Subarus are designed for going round bends not top speed challenges...

Not a good move if you ask me, or you are likely to end up with melted pistons and spun crank bearings.

Not to mention gearbox problems.

MikeyXR2i 06-01-2007 11:02 PM

you could be right, as the bonnet shakes like hell doing 150.

And you wanna go faster?

Save your money and enjoy the country lanes.. :top:

MikeyXR2i 06-01-2007 11:08 PM

:D :D :D well its not done often only when its a good open road, im one of these people that don't like limits on things!!! But yeah its more exciting ripping through the lanes.

COMEDY DAN 06-01-2007 11:12 PM

Touch :D

Big Will_ 06-01-2007 11:22 PM

I could be wrong here but on some of the jap stuff - i thought the limiter was removable through wiring mods as opposed to entering the ECU through a laptop?

Never done one myself - but we've an auto electrician who does 'limiter removal' work for us and i've never yet seen him with a laptop

Ginge ! 07-01-2007 12:07 AM

thats the 111mph limiter,,,,,, fucking stupid idea and considering the japs can fuck with anything electronic,,,,, that idea is only gonna work on there imported cars,,,,,, recon thee kids in japan could delimit the cars with there fucking computer knowlege

big_wig_074 07-01-2007 12:23 PM

so someone removed a 112mph limiter and put in a 155mph one?i reckon you just run out of power mate, and thats a slightly more difficult limiter to remove!

MikeyXR2i 07-01-2007 12:52 PM

No its the WR1 with 320BHP Limited to 155.

Jim Galbally 07-01-2007 01:33 PM

The first STi models featured higher power ratings than the WRX, while later versions of both WRX and STi were rated at 280PS due to the Japanese manufacturers' informal agreements around power ratings. Its top speed was electronically limited at 250 km/h (155 mph) and it had a 0–100 km/h time of 4.7 seconds
never heard of a WR1 model tho?

you dont mean WRC RA or STI RA do you?

MikeyXR2i 07-01-2007 01:40 PM

Nope WR1 Only 500 made, car in question is build number 172!

It managed it at 3 points round the ring though :D

big_wig_074 07-01-2007 01:42 PM

wr1s come in that awesome light blue jim, love the colour, and other than a p1 its the ONLY scoob id actually get,but id have to be under serious pressure to do so! :top:

Jim Galbally 07-01-2007 01:43 PM

you realise that 155mph is seriously fucking fast don't you?

i dont ever wanna go that fast again

Yeah its only done very very occasionally when on a good quiet road with nothing about, a few months ago when coming back from the Williams F1 Centre, my mate hit 155 in it, and the new STi 2.5 came past, which is spec'd to be slower than the WR1, but the car did look fettled with and was pulling away at a rate we couldn't believe. Gobsmacked to say the least. Its not very important as the car is very quick anyway, was just wondering how the limit was removed.

SteveB 07-01-2007 03:03 PM

Not 100% sure if below is 100% true or I..... A, made it up or B, drempt it but.......

Imports are limited to 180KMH (111MPH) when you have an electronic speedo conversion done so it converts the KMH to MPH elctronically it then moves the limiter to 180MPH instead....

Ollie. 07-01-2007 03:08 PM

Shouldnt have a limiter at 155...

MikeyXR2i 07-01-2007 03:10 PM

This car is a Type UK version, built for sale in the UK market. Its Limited to 155MPH, just like your M3's and so on.

plynchy 07-01-2007 03:12 PM

Off topic....but vaguely related...

Apparently if you go past 155 in 5th in an E39 M5, then hit 6th, it will sail past 155 (obviously) onto 180+.

Love to. :DD:

Ollie. 07-01-2007 03:29 PM

My E36 M3 Evo wasnt limited... sailed past 155...

I know when evos (6's) were released they were supposed to have a 155 limiter but they actually didnt. That was just the top speed of the cars with standard power.

TIFF 07-01-2007 03:31 PM

My DIESEL BMW has no limiter now ;)

You reckon its a bit of bullshit then that they say there limited? as i did see the Speedo hit 160MPH??

remember the speedo aint always accurate, so you might only have been doing 154 when it was rading 160 ;)

plynchy 07-01-2007 04:15 PM

My FRS was showing 158 on the speedo, GPS said 151. :blabla:

I dunno mate. I defo know evo 6 werent because there was a lengthy thread about it on the MLR and the newer evos defo arent.

My M3 definitely wasnt as we had is well above on GPS as well as the speedo and actually off the clocks(170) once.

My mate ( Carlo on here ) works for BMW and he says very few of them are limited.

Get a GPS on your scoob and see what it does but i reckon its just the power and aerodynamics stopping it. I also bet the spoiler slows it down a good few MPH!

Jim Galbally 07-01-2007 04:21 PM

my 3.0 M3 goes past an indicated 155, but then i've been told that they didnt bother to limit the 3.0 as they wont pull much past 160 with the power anyway, whereas the evo will pull 160+ happily, so thye limited them.

dunno if thats bull or not tho

Ollie. 07-01-2007 04:44 PM

Jim mine was a evo....

And i know of a few other evo M3's that werent limited...

Also not true! I have tested this in mine in a place where it would have been legal (obviously an autobahn ;) ), and I can tell you that the restrictor does not cut in until 168mph, and at this point it very much will not go any faster. As such, you cant go this fast in 5th, so makes no difference at all!

They are pretty easy to disable as I understand it. When my warranty expires in end of jan, I will be doing this, and will re report.

JJ
