Default Logbook/Registration Questions

Over the weekend my dad found the logbook/registration documents for a car he owned years ago. The car was broken for parts in the early 80's but the DVLA were not informed that it had been scrapped.

My questions are:

Does my dad still own the registration/logbook of the vehicle?

If he does could he sell it?

Any advice or answers appreciated.

Probably could, but i don't understand what good a log book would be for a car that had been broken! unless he was to sell it to someone that wanted to ring a car!

No he's only got bits and bobs from the car.

I think it's more about selling the registration than the logbook itself. If the car has never been officially scrapped, could you sell the registration?

You need a valid mot and tax disc to transfer a number plate so the only way would be to effectly ring a identical car yourself and get an MOT and tax disc then take it off and sell and put the donor 'ringed' car back on its original id

iirc to sell the registration it has to be on a retention certificate or the car has to be taxed and tested before you can transfer/sell the reg from it.

So effectively it's no good to anyone then?

Shame as it was "Classic" car and the plate was pretty cool too.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Sounds dodgy what I said but it can't effectivly and morally effect anyone IMO but will be expensive and hassle to do esp if the car was rare

DONT think he'll be able to get the reg number off now as will need to have an mot and tax etc (may even want to see the car)! as it has been untaxed etc for so many years!

you basically need the car in one piece and roadworthy to swap the plates mot and tax and that, so in a nutshell no. sorry but it did look like you meant sell the logbook registration document v5!
