cossie blocks have the bore sizes (eg 2232) by the dizzy - I don't think non-cossie blocks have these

IIRC the sizes marked by the dizzy relate to main bearing gradings, and all pinto blocks have them
I believe the cossie 205's are standard blocks selected for bore casting thickness and concentricity, which I don't think is physically marked on the block

i read somewhere on here about this

sure it was graceland that put it , but the markings are a sort of grade as mentioned, being bore or main i havnt a clue

but they are located by the dizzy and the lower the number the better the grade as they were hand picked

i think all cosy blocks were number 2222 by the dizzy

well my 205 block im using is anyhow

as far as cosworth are concerned a 200 is only different below the bores where the block is thickerfor 4x4 transmission , they did say that if your guna buy a 200 block nuy a ybp one because of oil ways

I thought the 2222 indicated standard bore sizes ?

Cosworth asked for only grade 2 and 3 bores be delivered to them by Ford so the genuine Yb blocks will all the gradings of 2 or 3 stamped by the dizzy. Once you have rebored it this becomes entirely irrelevant.

so the dizzy markings are referring to bore grading then? sorry my in that case..

Wasn't there any selection relating to bore casting quality in terms of thickness and concentricity? Pinto bores were renowned for being offset in the casting, so making the cylinder casting thinner one side than the other.

If you speak to Jondel Race Engines, Pete Jones, he said to me that the place on the blocks where they commonly crack, there is no difference in strength on either block.

He has been building cosworth engines for 25 years, a very clever guy.

Pete Jones is one of the original Kings of the Cosworth.

I remember a white saph they had 8 years ago that did 197 mph

Jondel, never a company to shout about their quality, and far too busy to come on here.

Top quality engine builder imo.
