RST/Saph Cos good everyday driver?
Or not?
Basically the daily hack is getting abit tired now and i'm thinking it might be time to have something abit more fun for a daily driver.
I don't do half as many miles as I used to, about 20 a day now instead of average 60+!
'If' driven carefully/conservatively, just not flat out the whole time as my route to work won't allow it anyway, are RST's and Saph's really THAT bad on fuel?
Also i'd want the car to be a fairly standard one, don't want anything that's gonna stress it, it would be nice to have a useable RS as the Series 1 doesn't see the light of day! Last time it turned a wheel was Ford Fair this year!
Either that or do I get a cheap standard Scooby for the same money as a solid RST 1.6 FWD for 3k or 2.0 4WD for 3.5k!
Cheers

Only looking to spend a few grand a cheap standard one mate, won't be highly tuned and don't want to waste silly money on a boring newer car...

daily driver
I wouldn't get a cossie for a daily driver cos their a pain in the fuckin arse and are always breakin things and fuckin up mainly cos they are getting old now,
also you can't get one and drive it easy whats the point? you know the horsies are under ya right foot so bottom line ya gonna use em and drive the car like a nut job resulting in you needing shares in shell
if you want a daily driver go for a newer car st 170 etc

i wouldnt imo. you will be parinod where you leave it, cost arm and leg to run and not the most reliable. Keep the RS for fun car but get something nice for everyday imo.

i use my saff 4x4 as my everyday car! love it! but as said drinks petrol
i also used to use my RS Turbo as my everyday car before. that was a daily driver 4 2years decided against it as its such a minter, now it just stays locked away
but both cars i would recommend as an everyday motor!

Dan u spud! don't get a taxi or rst as a daily drive, what's up with the trusty rover anyway
IMO as others get a newer car, a nice TD for example, my pug is no slouch for what it is!! excellent fuel economy and comfort with the mod cons. cheap to run / insure. and you can pick them up for good money, certainly less than 2.5 / 3k!

Dan i used my sapp every day for years with no probs and you know my mum has lee`s old sapph with 300bhp, she uses that everyday and thats over a year now again with no probs. as long as theyre checked over and serviced well they really arent as bad as many think.

My RS was used as a daily runner despite being highly tuned rarely gave so much as a sniff of trouble. Saying that I now have an A4 for daily duties and I wouldn't go back to using an RS as a runner again as I love being able to park the car up somewhere without worrying about it still being there when I got back to it.
Keep the RS for fun and get something boring and comfy for daily duties

Dan i would love to have a cosworth as a daily drive fuels cost though are mad only do around 15 miles a day cost around Ł40/50 in the cosy a week and then around Ł10 a in my galaxy TDI.
then i can`t really drive the cosy anyway because i spend 80% of the time in traffic.
over a month it would cost around an extra Ł150
But if i was you i would buy a cosworth anyway and enjoy it has like you say you can`t really do that in your super mint S1.

Thanks again guys, if I stay sensible like around Stg 1 then I dont foresee any problems if you treat them with abit of respect, i've had RWD cars before so am not gonna waste it in an accident
Tony, The Series 1 won't see the light of day now for another 8 months or so, and thats if I even bother to have it on the road next year, as i've got a few little jobs planned for it
arkley Cheers matey, i'll always keep it Ford now, don't know why but I will!

Ive had a cosworth as a daily driver for the past, well, god knows how long, and if you get a GOOD one, you wont go wrong. Its a Ford Sierra, it was built to be used everyday, and Ford even gave it a warranty. lol
Presuming you only work 6 days a week thats 90miles for Ł50. Surely you added that up wrong mate? Althought the Ł10 for teh TDi kind of backs it up?
A properly mapped std compression and cams cossie should never return less than 50miles on Ł10 of optimax around town.
You should be nearer to 70+ miles on the motorway too. get these cars fixed people.

i have a s2 that i use as my daily car at the mo and i've only hada few minor probs with it like dead battery in the morn etc
other than that its bin really reliable and if u keep off the gas they ain't that bad with fuel economy- not good but but not that bad lol
and if u get a later 90spec rst u get heated screen and a few extras to make winter a bit more comfortable

Don't know about a cossie, but every RST I've ever had has been my daily drive.
As long as you maintain it meticulously, and make sure the oil is changed every 3-5k, and don't go nuts with boost, it'll be fine as a daily car. My personal favourite is a stage 1, about 170bhp, as a daily car.

depending how you drive them theyre not that bad on petrol, though tbh if economy is no1 priority then i wouldnt get either
